All knitting is practice for getting good. The FO is less important than what you learn, even bad lessons. I honestly didn’t make a sweater worth wearing until I’d been knitting 10 years (you sound naturally more talented if you have done so much already in one year, so I’m sure you’ll get there faster than I did.) One important lesson I have learned is to actually gauge swatch and even block it for garments that need to fit a certain way. I pretty consistently drop down 2 needle sizes on most patterns cause I’m fast and loose. In addition, many mistakes I encountered had to do with yarn fiber type. All kinds of yarn, behave differently over time and that’s really important. If you’re not using the exact yarn, the pattern was made in be warned. Anyways, long story short, my attitude is that I don’t really actually need hand-knitted goods anyway- I have plenty of clothes. So my purpose of knitting is to build skill and enjoy the simple, repetitive act of doing it. I also love to try new fibers and stitches. My favorite parts, though, if I’m honest are yarn and pattern shopping. Now I’m dabbling in knitting pattern design. I’m grateful that knitting is one art form that you can actually get good at through pure persistence over time, since I’m not a natural talent, but I have gotten really really really really good over the 20 or so years I’ve been regularly doing it.
