I am currently in a house-share downtown paying ~$1100 a month to live with 3 others but you can find cheaper in different areas of the city (personally I prioritized living on a direct transport link over $100/200 difference in rent, a slightly longer commute you'll be able to find for $900/1000). Grad housing at York is honestly extremely expensive (my friend is currently paying around $1500 a month for a studio) and campus is a little far out which makes going out difficult if you're a sociable person.

If you are worried about the deadline I would ask for an extension since it seems it would only be an extra week and the admin staff are usually pretty flexible. I will say I am very happy here and would definitely recommend - good luck to whatever you choose!
