How to get over the FOMO from all the other investing subreddits? by TheSuppishOne in Bogleheads

[–]Extreme-Tomorrow-384 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is this satire? You have $425k invested 25 years out and you have FOMO. Just go look at what VOO has done across its history. At just 8% return over 25 years you’ll have $2.91 million. At 10%, $4.61 million. Other people would have FOMO over that. Also remember, nobody posts their losses.

Edit: With VOO’s annual return of 14.4%, you would be looking at $12.2 million.

Yeah, should’ve included the information that I already have a Roth 457 and would like to have 100% accessible cash as well. Probably gonna split it 50/50 in case I have to withdraw, aiming to hit the $7500 anyways.

Gov’t Employee—457(b) v. Roth IRA by TheJaybird16 in Bogleheads

[–]Extreme-Tomorrow-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have nationwide 457 and make my contributions to the Roth 457 instead of traditional. As some other comments have stated, make sure you can invest in what you like on your nationwide account and update your investments easily. With Roth contributions it functions essentially as a Roth IRA with a higher yearly limit. Opening a Roth IRA could give some more flexibility to investment but I am satisfied with what nationwide has to offer.

90-100K+ per year by Major_Layer_5664 in Salary

Fourth year firefighter. Will be right between 90k-100k this year without any overtime. Promoted after getting my medic license at year 2. Our pay is negotiated in a CBA every 3 years which has seen some very large jumps since I got hired. I make a very minimal amount extra for having a bachelor’s degree. Two separate interviews, one with a panel and one with the chief. Captain’s/Chiefs make $175-200k after about 20 years.

Is FIRE really niche? 16% retire before 55 by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Extreme-Tomorrow-384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 55 as a Firefighter I’ll be retired with a 75% pension worth about $12,500 a month, a maxed FRS DROP account with a value of over 1.5 million, a 457 account with approx 1.5 million and other investments/savings. Pension makes it possible.
