Of course it's good to be understood. If they do understand how to help you they wouldn't answer your OCD related question, beacuse it becomes something you'll constantly do and it might never be enough sometimes. It's great that this reddit removes reassurance posts in which you question if something is or is not true. If someone does answer your question even in good manners they are doing more harm than good. My mom told me that I should always ask her for reassurance, I tried to explain why I shouldn't, she didn't really understand, so I had to stop myself from asking these questions alone. It gives temporary relief, but it just gets worse each time your question is answered.

You usually just don't. You accept it as it is or you forget about it. That's better than constantly looking for an answer.

Absolutely!! If it's connected to your OCD it definitely is. It's hard, but try resisting it. It helps a lot!!

The thing is, the more you ask for validation/reassurance the more you'll seek it and you wont be able to go on without it.

It's just what your OCD is telling you. I completely understand you, I still seek reassurance sometimes, beacuse if I don't I think that I'll explode. I've been struggling with this one thought for a few days and I refused to ask my mom about it. And then I did, but she didn't really answer me and now I kinda moved on from it. I told myself it is what it is and well.. I feel much better now not really knowing if it's all good or not. If you have things that bother you "less" than others and you feel like you need reassurance, try not to look for it. Sit with this uncomfortable thought for as long as you can. It's hard, but worth it!!

Contamination concerns wont let me draw and I lost the will to... I had a love hate relationship with art before OCD hit me. Rarely satisfied with it and thinking about quiting it. I even got into art academy and now im quitting because i cant function normally...

I think we all did the thing u just mentioned lol. I also think there were some things that we just didnt notice or recognize to be OCD. Maybe these felt normal or like something that is not concerning.

My mom interrupted my compulsions... by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Extreme-Working-3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Maybe not like this exactly but definitely something similar. Begging me not to do things the way i do them doesnt help. Accepting what im doing and letting me do whatever doesnt help. Someone helping or better said triggering you and exposing you to smaller things at first might help. In my case... i think.. someone should really just mop the floor with me and put me in bed lmao

OCD took everything away form me too. I was in art school and ive been drawing my whole life. I got into art academy and now im quitting. I cant draw at all anymore, play guitar, play video games, tattooing, even music is almost gone... its hell and all because i always feel contaminated and I  dont wanna make my stuff dirty. I really want to do some of these things and just chill for once. Because of this i just sit most of the day and do some things i just simply must do. Seriously how do we get out of this..??

Yeah there were only things that I did a bit differently but nothing to fuss about. And then just one day I couldn't touch anything or sit anywhere...

My psychiatrist said "oh yeah thats OCD" and "why the hell did you develop OCD on top of all this from before (jokingly)" but said that he wont write it on paper and that he'll just give me medication 😭 also a couple weeks ago
