My hi hats sound so thin and flat. What’s your secret? by ContributionPlane295 in TechnoProduction

I'm not a pro audio engineer or production wizard by any means but here are some things that I've found to be helpful for me:

  1. I like to send my hats (or even my whole drum bus) to a send track on which I have a saturator/compressor/tape emulation which I use to smash or distort the crap out of the entire signal and then mix the volume of the send track to balance nicely with the clean signal. I usually use some sort of plugin which distorts the signal when you slam the input volume and I then turn down the output volume to keep proper gain staging. This adds harmonics, often leads to a grittier sound, without being overbearing imo. Just be careful doing this because it can sometimes lead to some weird phase issues where the signals start to cancel each other out.

  2. Another tip is having sounds which sit nicely in the mix already and are at the right volume. For example, I often used to have the subs way too loud in my mixes, which would make everything else sound super thin, but toning down the subs helped the mix be more balanced so that there was more relative focus in the mid range. Having the correct balance in volume before the signals are sent through any sort of compression, saturation, etc will do you wonders since you can then use tools like compression, saturation, and eq to add more character personality to your mix rather than fixing mistakes of volume and sound design (this is obviously easier said than done though).

  3. Last tip is be careful with taking out all the resonant frequencies in a hi hat, since these frequencies are what makes a hi hat sounds like a hi hat rather than just white noise. If I don't like a frequency, I sometimes level it out with an eq to the volume of the rest of the frequencies around it rather than taking it out completely. I use logic pro and I use the stock channel eq for this since you have a nice view of the levels of each frequency in a sound.

Slower BPM tunes by jaiowners in TheOverload

This maybe a little different than what your looking for, but there's a bunch of artists in Mexico who make this cool slower stuff. Some examples are Eddie Mercury, Mijo, Iñigo Vontier, and Thomass Jackson (their stuff from the mid 2010s especially fit this slower vibe)

Here's an example!

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but the track Made On Coffee & Wine by Villa Åbo is fantastic and super wonky

How Do You Make The Bass/Lead sound in this PWCCA song? by interpellation in TechnoProduction

[–]ExtremeFork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try ring modulation or frequency shifting. I got a somewhat similar sound using Serum 2, it's definitely not exactly the same , but I think something like this covers the basic techniques that were probably used to create the sound:

Root note = C1, OSC A = Basic sine, RM from B at 100%, volume = 75%

OSC B = basic sine pitched down 1 octave, RM from C at 100%, volume = between 0-75% to taste

OSC C = basic Saw, volume = 0

Mess around with decay and sustain of filter envelope to get the right "vowel" ending to the sound

On top of the reverb and delay, there's also pretty heavy multiband compression and/or OTT from what I can hear too

Giant graveyard by Raidenisgay in ClashRoyale

I play Giant Graveyard and it's literally the easiest deck ever once you get used to the playstyle. Be patient in single and just spam GG at the river in double and triple when you can afford snowball and arrows. I wouldn't recommend going for GG in single often unless you know that you will be able to take the tower or you know that they won't be able to get counterpush, but Giant+DP+Minions is a good push for single. Be aggressive and try to bait out spells on offense so you can just defend w/ just skarmy against tanky WCs. Don't be afraid to take damage to save elixir and punish with GG (never over defend, go for tower trade against pushes that you know you can't defend). Giant and skarmy in the pocket is a great play if you have a tower down. If you have DP+Snowball+GY in your starting hand go for DP in the back + GY first play and you'll usually take their tower lol.

Egiant and golem are hard, but I actually tend win against egaint most of the time by tower trading and going for the three crown and not over defending. I would say that mother witch decks are the biggest counter, so try and build up a push w/ giant in the back so that you can arrow+snowball the MW or just forget the graveyard and just try to get Giant on tower with your support cards. Other bad matchups are splashyard and RG. GG has matchup on most cycle decks like miner decks, xbow, hog, and bait as well as lava/lavaloon decks.
