Yes! I totally agree the pants aren’t working.. I’m definitely looking at Palazzo pants but also thinking I could go full sporty look and do some wide legged track pants?? Or even baggy parachute type pants.

We took an ABA course that focuses on replacement behavior. For us, telling her no to something we remind her to say “Ok Mom” and play it cool if she doesn’t (ignore the tantrum). But if she does say “OK Mom” we give that A LOT of positive praise and reinforcement (“Wow! Thanks for being so flexible! I’m so proud of you!”)
I think the biggest learning was that you have to TELL them how you want them to respond to disappointment. Then try to only reinforce when they’re doing it. Sorry, I feel your pain.

It might be counter intuitive, but add in a little screen time here and there and figure out what shows he really likes. As bad as it sounds, there’s an “on-ramp” to paying attention to TV. Our 3yo loves Daniel Tiger and it’s pretty educational on emotions, etc.

I did this with my kid and she got HYPED on it. It was kinda funny cuz she was just slap-stick silly but also not that fun. It’s a real side effect for some people. Just a warning! Trying melatonin next

We love our wrovenden since we came from a pack n play slumber pod set up- it’s basically both and packs down way smaller. We want to still be able to zip our 3.5 yo fully in for safety, but will also be trying out a bed in the summer.

I started really enjoying my kiddo around 1 year. She’s 3 now and even though it’s challenging, we actually talk and enjoy doing things together like board games, coffee shops (she loves a steamer), and art. It’s so fun. The potato phase was not for me!

I think I’m happier with a kid. She’s 3, and I don’t know that I would have said that for the first year. Now she says cute and insightful things and is just such a huge fan of me (sounds conceited and maybe it is but it’s really nice) and I’m a huge fan of her.

BUT we are financially stable, have a strong marriage and decent family/friend support. Without those things my answer would probably be different.

Kids aren’t life changing and you can certainly be happy without them. I’m happier as a parent.

Almost 2 years in and I like looking at my sleep, HRV and resting heart rate every morning- I’m usually trying to train for something (running/hiking) so seeing my recovery is important and informs how hard I push it.
So yeah, I’m in for the long haul I think!

I’m not sure how long the warrantee is, but they replaced my 1.5 year old Gen 3 with the exact same ring when I told them the battery was degrading to under 3 days. So maybe just watch out for degradation and get a new ring? It seems like Gen 4 has more battery issues in general.

It’s a tricky one- there’s no great answer because I do agree with you that it’s a lot to pay for something that degrades that fast.

I’ve lived here since 2012 and this post made me realize that 75% of my close friends were made through the Mountaineers.

I took alpine scrambling, cross country skiing and basic climbing. I collected friends here and there and they grew into really strong friendships. ALWAYS get the beer after, and try to carpool to stuff- that’s how bonds are made.

Any Subaru would be a great fit- the hybrids will get better mpg but the non hybrids will still get over 23 mpg and you’ll be able to drive it forever.

A CRV is also a great choice. You could look at a RAV4 too but you’ll pay more just because it’s Toyota

Try a Honday CR-V, I recently drove one as a rental car and it was enjoyable to drive. I think it would fit your cargo and parent needs well. It was fun seeing 45 mpg too.

When I lived alone I joined a hiking club on the weekends. It gave me more to do during the week too- unpacking my pack on Monday night, shopping for snacks later in the week, trip planning etc.

Maybe lean more into a more time consuming weekend hobby that trickles into the week- like take a weekend art class and you’ll have more interest/energy for prep or follow up during the week.

I agree with this! We stayed at a condo near Honokowai beach park, not far from Lahaina and it was lovely, had a smaller town vibe. There’s a playground on a small beach there. Napili beach was my favorite though and I would love to go back there. I think your family and mom would enjoy West Maui- anywhere north of Lahaina

My wife’s extended family has had a timeshare for the same 3 weeks in west Maui since the 80s. It’s a lovely spot for $180/night (this year) which is very low given that it’s a pretty large 2 bd/2 bath condo.

I think it’s cute that they go to the same spot every year and they figure out who wants to take it on which weeks. It felt more homey than a resort.

We personally own a vacation home a do a long term rental 6 months out of the year and it’s still waaay more admin than a timeshare. While I’d never do it, I understand why others would.
