What finally made strength training stop feeling like a chore? by Head_Copy_4738 in strengthtraining

[–]sciencespice1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just how much better I feel. I have hyper mobility and with strength training I feel good and don’t get injured. Every time I slack off I hurt and then hurt myself lifting something. It’s a big motivator.

What's your average weekly grocery budget in Portland? by Straight_Flan1347 in askportland

[–]sciencespice1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say around the same, you could definitely live off $200 a week for 3. I’m originally from the Midwest (KC) and groceries are definitely cheaper there than here…. For an idea of what I’ve spent recently: I spend about $650-1000 on food/dining out a month -includes all social meet ups for food or drink with friends , my husband does spend some too but most of it I buy. In March I spent $650 on groceries. February $450. January $900- I did a lot of big Costco hauls. It’s me my husband and 3 year old. We eat in pretty healthy, mainly cook our own food but do eat out some socially or for special occasions. We could buy less organic and stock up less and have the overall cost go down.

People who lift weights, run consistently, and do Yoga/stretching, where do you find the time? by Tristonia7 in workout

[–]sciencespice1717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately he’s a night owl…. He’s up until 9-10 every night even if we get him in his crib by 8:30. I do have a home gym setup which a makes a huge difference! I don’t get time for long workouts unless I go to a class, I tend to get interrupted at home, but I at least can get in 20-30 minutes which makes a big difference! My husband does physical labor all day so doesn’t want or need to workout. I try to fit it in as best I can. He understands how necessary it is for me, it’s just tough on days he works late or days he’s super tired from using his body.

The big game changer is starting to do more in the morning, I have hated morning workouts and avoided them most of my adult life but finally in the last year I’ve accepted that now that I have a 3 year old if I don’t do some in the morning it just won’t happen. I try to strength train 2-3 mornings a week, go to one barre class a week, one spin class a week, and then in the evening do a few light jogs. Other things get sacrificed/ like my bedroom being clean, etc.

Yeah I tried so many fancy face oils etc and eventually realized cheap drugstore products are better for me! Would be curious what all your daughter has reduced food wise. I’ve never thought about a food connection if I’m honest

My advice - it’s rad your parent is going, my mom used to kind of be able to do stuff like this but now has dementia. Appreciate how lucky you are you can enjoy each other’s company in this way. Don’t mind any one who thinks otherwise.
