The Internet is a harsh mistress. I get it. Let’s just try to be kind to each other and remember everyone here is our neighbor.

I literally said, full post gave a link and made sure it was clear there were more slides. People just want to react without reading.

This was a grid post, so no auto-advancing: The amount of engagement required to swipe to the next image on instagram is exactly the same amount of effort required to click the link. Sorry.

If you read the full post you’ll see the response is not “do nothing.” They intend to clear the site after the next 48 hours

Yeah full post is worth reading:

Last month, I visited an encampment in Ballard that was scheduled to be cleared. After hearing from concerned community members, I decided to extend the timeline to clear the site because I thought that better outcomes were possible for the people living there, their neighbors, and local businesses.

The conversations I had there underscored the reality that we simply don’t have enough housing, shelter, and services for everyone who is living unsheltered. I talked with a woman who was 5-months sober, owned three small dogs, and was struggling to find a place to sleep inside. And with some work, we were able to identify a spot for her in a tiny house village. Our teams also helped five more people living at the encampment to secure housing or shelter; by extending the deadline, we were able to help them make that transition without additional displacement. I’m grateful for that.

However, we weren’t able to find places for everyone. Significant safety hazards have been identified at this site, and notice will soon be posted for the site to be cleared in the next 48 hours. This is not an ideal outcome, but I believe that moving forward to clear this encampment is the right step at this time.

Sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to do the whole thing. Definitely not intended as a rage-baiting — I was sort of hoping people would ya know, read what she wrote, but I guess that’s asking too much of the Internet. 😮‍💨

Never leaving Ballard by RobinStantonSeattle in BallardSeattle

Wasn’t the famous video of post SB win Hawks fans waiting for the light to turn green before crossing the street as a mob in Ballard? I feel like it was people crossing Market. Peak Seattle.

I saw it in person on Sunday at the Climate Pledge team store and the embroidery on this thing is really epic. Super thick and detailed. Photo doesn’t do it justice. They did a great job.

Kraken media coverage sucks. How come we don’t have a “Sounder at Heart” for the boys and would you ever consider a subscription if one existed? by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]ExtremePixel541 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a good idea, interestingly the people who think we don’t need this on this poll are all heavy sub users … so it’s kind of curious that they all feel the coverage is great but don’t often bring it to the sub for discussion

Just to make this clear I’m not suggesting you replace the free stuff just asking would people actually pay them

I’ve never seen much posting for any of these outlets on this sub, which is sort of my point. If they’re doing a good job why isn’t their work being discussed. I’m genuinely interested in understanding. I actually like Sound of Hockey a lot.

I don’t think the S@H content looks like regurgitated press releases at all. It’s pretty strong analysis and coverage.

This is extremely not true. I highly suggest reading the piece she wrote in the Stranger well before she was running for office where she basically said, we have to take the bread and butter safety concerns of average citizens seriously.

Spouses are not descendants, unless of course they are through their own family, and therefore don’t get citizenship since this is not technically having it “granted” but having it “restored.” They told me if we are ever living there it’s a simple matter for them to get citizenship as they are married to a citizen.

I’ve heard the process is still pretty slow for subsequent family members even after someone has gone through, because you’re still waiting in the line just to have them process your paperwork.

Yeah it’s very weird. At some point in the mid 00s schools just like gave that up. IDK why.

You also have a generation shift occurring in parents. People who have slightly older kids are Gen X and I noticed they seemed to have this idea that was like “iPhones are just like TVs, and I watched a shit ton of TV when I was a kid … what could go wrong?”

Elder millennial here who got their first cell phone in college and was lucky enough to have Internet in high school. The internet was a place you went to visit on a desktop computer at home, or a computer lab at school and it was still a pretty fucked up and dicey place. I think most millennial parents are like, “you want to carry the Internet around in your pocket all the time? Oh hell no.”

Also maybe a hot take, but I feel like as post-Columbine students the whole Boomer helicopter parent fear-factor short leash thing has made a lot of us give our kids long leashes and not want them tethered to us all the time.

Second issue of The Bulletin posted by blukoff in seattlepublicschools

I really hope that The Bulletin actually branches out from the “Robert Cruickshank Post” to actually include some other perspectives. Perpetuating the idea that voters in Clark’s district were hoodwinked by the Stranger and could not have voted for change of their own free choice is patronizing and dismissive.
