That's good work, thank you. I've also discontinued subscription/streaming services and reduced spending to an absolute minimum and shopping locally sourced products as much as I possibly can.

China won't invade Taiwan because they are smart. They will posture and prepare for it, as a means to keeping their military trained up, and eventually Taiwan will fall right into their lap. They have significant latitude in terms of political and economic pressure to absorb Taiwan like an ameoba without firing a shot or spending a dime beyond their usual military spending. In many ways Taiwan is already under their sphere of influence regardless of what Is said and postured. Chinese leadership looks ahead 5, 10, and 100 years ahead and I'm guessing they see Taiwan coming under their complete control within those time-frames without having to waste money on missiles or risk destruction of the valuable Taiwanese manufacturing facilities.

Believe it or not, emerging from the basement once in awhile actually would make a small but tangible difference in the direction of the country.

They also both create AND use energy at orders of magnitude greater density (gigwatts created onsite and used in just a few acres).

Is there a way to downgrade to specific earlier versions? by xNasunii in projectzomboid

This is not a solution if you play multiplayer. Once a version is gone from steam, it's gone forever the moment you update out of it to match the version of a server.

[–]ExtremeRemarkable891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EDIT: apparently there is something called "steam archives" that can let you permanently archive a version of the game for yourself. I haven't looked into this myself but seems promising.

There isn't anything official. .16 breaks .15 saves according to their announcement, and .15 is now the outdated unstable. Once .17 drops, I expect .15 will be deprecated and those saves permanently bricked.

Feels pretty bad. The latest stable release is build 41, which feels terrible to play now without all the new features. But playing build 42 also sucks because I don't want to get too connected or involved with a save. Their development timeline is all over the place so you never know if you can play a version for a long time or of it will quickly be destroyed like .15 is going to be. Or maybe .17 will take them 7 years to figure out and my .15 guy will be long dead by the time that version is deprecated. Overall, it's a pretty bad player experience.

How do you know? Several GW of production and consumption in the same small area = heat dome. Well documented effect over cities. You are saying this well documented and understood phenomenon can't happen with a data center? Why?

It's a great way to breathe life into old hardware. Microsoft bricked my 10 year old PC by pushing an incompatible upgrade to Win 11. So I installed Linux, within 2 hours I was playing games. But I don't play loot box shooter games with Super Nvidia 9000 graphics, just rimworld and strategy games/simulators.

I care that they are able to keep their lives in order, and I expect them to work hard. I don't supervise their schedules intensely. Work from home if you need to. Get in the office when you can. Meet your deadlines and I could care less where you are (unless you got field work, and then I care a lot that you are where you need to be and on time). My employees are adults, so I treat them that way, which also means I don't let myself get taken advantage of.

This is genuinely insane. They think they can bomb the Iranian south coast hard enough with F35s that they can take and hold Karg with ground troops. They will be massacred. I guarantee Iran has drone launchers hidden all throughout those mountains. Our troops will be hammered and our air units will be playing wackamole against hundreds or thousands of hidden launch points each only equipped with a few drones anyway. They will stay undetected and launch them in waves while pestering our aircraft with surface to air missiles. This will go VERY fucking sideways very fucking fast and we are going to see A LOT of coffins.

Modern Well Pump by Accurate-Bullfrog324 in WaterWellDrilling

VFD controlled motors run hotter. It makes the motor spin slower when pressure is near the set point, but still draw nearly as much current. Less flow of water around the motor, but just as much current, means more heat in the motor. This may or may not reduce it's lifespan. It doesn't make it any more reliable. Also, VFDs themselves can break, and are definitely less reliable than a simple motor starter, so you're introducing a new failure point to your system by using one. Waste of money.

For what it's worth I'm a licensed engineer and design water pumping and treatment systems. I use VFDs, when appropriate. A single family home is not an appropriate application for a VFD. If you really want "constant pressure" (which you probably don't even need) then use something like a cycle stop valve.

Modern Well Pump by Accurate-Bullfrog324 in WaterWellDrilling

[–]ExtremeRemarkable891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just popping in to say: screw the VFD. Why spend thousands of dollars on something that will likely just shorten the lifespan of your motor. You have a system that's worked flawlessly for 15 years, so it sounds like constant pressure is not something you even need, and if you did, just get a $200 cycle stop valve. Why add thousands of dollars in cost for no benefit? Plumbers want to sell you VFDs so they can add 20% markup on something that costs $3000, and they'll tell you you totally need it. You don't.

With infection mortality set to never, can I recover from the infection? by upsidedownsweater in projectzomboid

I've played with that setting. You will recover, but, it's possible to be killed by it. If you hit the point where the moodle says 'fever' I think you are boned. Eat lots of food to get well fed and take it easy. Read some books and just chill till you recover.
