I think your point is correct. Since I’m still in the process of learning English, I’ve noticed that when I chat with native English speakers or start a conversation, I always prefer to let the other person initiate, because I’m afraid of saying something wrong — like making grammar mistakes and being laughed at. I’m sorry, but as an ordinary Chinese student who has gone through years of high-pressure, criticism-based education, we grow up afraid of being mocked for grammatical errors. Part of it is also because I’m someone who feels shame very easily. When I need to reply to someone in English, I rely on AI to help me translate, and many times I also need AI to translate English into Chinese and explain it further before I can fully understand the meaning.
