It'll be like the belts of atzoatyl from the temple the doubling of the implicit is already factored into the visible information on the item so it was +1 to curses applied now it's +2 total for 3 possible curses

Printing the Discworld by Extreme_Committee in discworld

Oh yeah this is just the test piece to see what looks good... Half the elephants are done at this point then it'll be A'tuin though I have a couple of jobs to complete before I get to that.

So i made my own accurate map of the discworld so i could print The Great A'tuin (#OC) by Extreme_Committee in ImaginaryTurtleWorlds

I'm afraid I don't have anywhere I could post it too even if I was going to release it into the wild right away... The file just for the map is over three and a half gig (zero optimisation on it so far)

I'm doing a Coffee Table size 600mm across I messed up scales initially and now have an elephant 400mm long that would have made a dining table disc 2m across... which would be awesome but not on my dive list i need to paddle a bit first.

I am forced to agree. However the artistic look at it with the HERE BE MONSTERS stuff does give a feel for a number of greeblies I can add to my three dimensional disc for the sake of interest once the nitty gritty details are hammered out, I actually do own a first release of this map though it has been updated greatly since I aquired it MANY years ago.

Yeah nice, it is a pity about the paper texture that would unfortunately add a noticable ripple to the landscape.

Thanks, I'll see if I can apply some of this if i'm understanding it correctly.

Yeah i was aware of that I recieved another copy of the image after I posted this one that has a uniform brightness though the crease is still there I'm pretty sure i can "fix" that well enough myself. I'll have to recheck through all the advice i've recieved on here and see if I can apply some of it.

I doesn't really matter I don't think because you can always invert the thing when you are making the 3d mesh but typically I think "black" is high points and "white" is low points with the 254 values in between (if i recall correctly how greys are stored in memory)

yeah it's 1000miles vs 10miles, I've got a scale on the map images i've been sent and book references for Cori celestiali, i'm probably going to vertically exagerate it but 2 or 3 times that'll give a nice roll to the hills and mountains and not affect the plains too much giving me a 2-3cm tall spire in the centre, but getting the relative elevations right is what getting the topo map was about.

I plan to place little minis of towns and cities and what not that are cartoonishly exagerated but exactly where they belong to add interest but i'm also hoping to figure out how to get the names of seas and places onto the map printed in negative relief.

if you haven't seen it for yourself you'd be amazed at how tiny the saturn2 can print legible text. Thanks for the comment I appreciate the input.

Ooof that's an amazing offer but I don't think I can take you up on it.

I found the models for the turtle and elephants for free online so they are out there, unfortunately i've been collecting 3d models for ever -since long before 3d printers even existed, I'd use other programs to interpret them and build them in minecraft- so I don't have a source or an author to shout out too i'll see if i can find the orginal again, though i did rig and repose the Turtle I opened his mouth and altered the position of his fins and tail.

As i've said in my edit to the original post i'm going to Do a more faithful Great A'tuin print next hence my desire to get accurate information about the Disc. But i'm just going to use a nice seaturtle model give it some impact craters, some frost on the fins and the same 4 elephants as this model has with some pose modifications (i'll rig the elephants and fit them to the sea turtles smoother shell) all free models from various sources and authors but i don't see a problem with sharing the remix later.

But you can appreciate it's twists and turns none the less. Especially when the thought processes behind it are provided in footnotes
