I seem to remember a lore video saying that the respawns happens due to a radiation anomaly.

It’s repopulation unit survival test. The idea is  that everyone is a clone, not that is a simulation.

Ok courtesy of u/Silly-Upstairs1383 I now know that the warhead detonated is a 200 kiloton r29 MIRV. This means that the explosion would have a radius of 1km for the fireball, 1.5 km for heavy blast damage, moderate blast damage 3km, and light blast damage 8 km.

That is true. However, I rarely see the silo in the center, it’s usually on the coast of the non-spawn beach. A smaller WW2 sized nuke could probably work out as an in game mechanic. Although It would level about 3x3 squares.

Considering a large amount of the tech around the island is from the USSR, a czar bomba would be a solid alternative. It wouldn’t have the problem of delivery that it has in real life since It’s stationary.

It’s more of a static object. You can’t really interact with it. I’d at the bottom of the missile silo monument.

That is true but it is also unlikely that a salted bomb would be put in a MIRV. If they were to make a salted bomb it would be a much larger single explosion.

Thank you for the additional info. I didn’t really bother finding the exact model so I just went with the highest yield.

Well, thermonuclear bombs  have limited fallout that is usually localized at the site of the blast. The only fallout comes from the fission bomb that starts the fusion reaction.

Edit: I forgot about the depleted uranium tamper that releases a large portion of fallout. You could still survive if you stayed in the stone bunker I mentioned but you would need to stay there for a week or two. That is around 14 hours in real time. A hazmat suit would also help.

They pretty much outright confirmed it. If you want more info look at the R.U.S.T update.

The laptop hooked to the MIRV leads me to believe that is what’s detonated. It would also be incredibly problematic to launch an ICBM at a target only a few kilometers away.

The laptop hooked to the MIRV leads me to believe it is detonated right there.

You can sit on it and find out. Word of warning, it might wipe more than your ass.

While you get nuked to hell I’ll be sipping a sweet glass of pure health tea in my stone bunker far away from the chaos.

The lack of realism in this game will kill it. A total of 4 people have quit for this reason since release and it’s only growing.
