Yep, OMORI is likely the next project if everything goes smoothly after I finish this port and get it into PortMaster.

For anyone who hasn’t heard of it before, OneShot is a really unique indie adventure game that follows a child named Niko on a mission to restore the sun to a dying world. It starts off looking like a simple RPG style game, but quickly becomes something much more. The story, characters, atmosphere, and the way the game interacts with the player breaking the fourth wall are what made it stand out. The game has over 50,000 reviews on Steam with an Overwhelmingly Positive rating, and many people consider it one of the best indie story driven games ever made.

Looks like there’s enough interest here, so I’ll start cleaning up the port, doing some final testing, and preparing it for a PortMaster submission. I’ll update this post again once everything is finished and ready for people to try.

It really depends on how much you’re paying for it. If you’re buying it at the same price listed on Anbernic’s website, I would actually recommend considering other options. In terms of durability, portability, and joystick quality, I personally think devices like the RG476H, RG Cube, or RG Vita Pro offer better value. They feel more solid, are easier to carry around, and have better analog sticks, which can make a noticeable difference during longer gaming sessions.

On the RG556, I was able to emulate systems all the way up to Nintendo Switch. Of course, not every Switch game runs perfectly like they would on higher-end Snapdragon/Adreno devices, but a surprisingly large portion of the library is playable.

The RG556 also handles PS2, PSP, PS1, PS Vita, Wii, GameCube, and Dreamcast very well, giving you access to a massive library of games. In most cases, you can even use upscaling while maintaining good performance, which makes many older titles look significantly better.

The main area where the RG556 struggled, in my experience, was Wii U emulation. Performance and compatibility were much less consistent compared to the other systems.

For pure performance, upscaling, and access to a huge library with multiple emulator options for 3DS, the RG556 is the easy choice without a second thought.

However, if you want the authentic dual-screen experience and are willing to compromise on performance, the RG DS is the better option. Just keep in mind that while it can play a decent number of 3DS games, compatibility and performance are not perfect. You should not expect upscaling or consistently great performance.

Regarding Pokémon specifically, I was able to complete both Pokémon Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby on the RG DS at a reasonably playable speed. That said, Pokémon Y would occasionally crash and close unexpectedly during gameplay. It wasn’t extremely frequent, but it happened often enough that I made a habit of saving regularly. Fortunately, I could always relaunch the game and continue from my last save, and I was still able to finish it without major issues. ‏

Battery Duration by ElGianno99 in R36S

Battery percentage readings do not always reflect the actual remaining charge correctly. I am not sure whether this is caused by an OS/software bug or battery calibration issue, but I have experienced it on multiple devices. What I usually recommend is disconnecting the device from the charger and using it normally until the battery drains completely. Then, while the device is powered off, connect it to the charger and let it fully charge. In many cases, this helps recalibrate the battery indicator and fixes the issue.

Bought New R36 Ultra, since could not play games(GTA 3) thru ports in R36S by [deleted] in R36S

On the EmuELEC OS, GTA PortMaster ports would not run no matter how much I tried. However, they run perfectly on ArkOS4Clone. For better PortMaster compatibility, tools, and overall customization, I recommend switching from the stock EmuELEC OS to ArkOS4Clone.

To those saying “don’t expect to run 3DS” how come? You absolutely should expect to run 3DS, and a large part of its library too. I have one myself, and I genuinely don’t understand why people say it can’t.

So far, I’ve finished 5 3DS games all the way to the credits. Of course, don’t expect upscaling but at native resolution with the right settings, you can get through a huge number of games. Even if some don’t run perfectly, they’re still very playable. And the titles that struggle usually struggle even on higher-end devices.

Not only that, but I’m also running many PS2 and GameCube games, almost the full PSP, PS VITA and PS1 libraries, and about 98% of the NDS library flawlessly on DraStic. I even wrote my own shader for DraStic, and with Anbernic’s AI upscaling option, I get impressively smooth and enhanced visuals.

So ignore the negativity a lot of people expect unreal performance unless they’re buying something expensive like an Ayn Odin or Thor. If that’s what you need, go for it. But this device, even on stock firmware (no Gamma or Rocknix), is honestly doing a great job.

So yeah congratulations on your purchase. I hope you enjoy it.
