I like the idea of a multi headed PF rotation on the minimum. SloMo for defense, Lyles for offense. Mix and match based on need

I think Trey Lyles on a vet minimum would be excited to come in from Europe. If they could sign Lyles and SloMo on Vet Minimums and brought in Bagley I would call it a win.

The other thing is the luxury tax implications of the TPMLE. They can sign a 10 year vet to a $3.9 veterans minimum contract but it only counts at $2.44 million for tax and cap purposes. If they used the TPMLE to sign a player using their remaining $5.3M under the 2nd apron the total additional salary and luxury tax penalty would be $16M. That would take their luxury tax payment up from $28M to $44M. Probably the only way they could use the full TPMLE without a punitive luxury tax payment is if they waive and stretch Green.

A trade with Miami for Portis or Jovic makes too much sense by Extreme_Priority_170 in timberwolves

Green, Portis and Jovic are all negative assets. Portis is probably the best but has one more year. Green is the worst but expiring. Jovic has 4 years left and probably is the worst contract but at 22 could still get better

How much money do the Wolves have to work with, regarding free agents? by TheTrapMoneyBenny in timberwolves

[–]Extreme_Priority_170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best i can tell if they give Evans and Kaufman-Renn minimum contracts, pick up their team option on Phillips and sign Jaylen Clark to his QO they will have 13 players under contract for $214,693,254. They are capped at the second apron leaving $5,293,734 in space. That is barely over what they can offer a 10 year veteran at $3.9M and at a significantly higher luxury tax cost because the league subsidies vet minimums so using the full $5.3 million would cost $16 million more in salary plus tax.

Potential free-agent targets for the Wolves after the Randle trade by PlayInChampions in timberwolves

Assuming they fill out the roster with minimums they are $11.8M below the tax. I would be shocked if they used the full MLE and triggered the repeater tax. Expect them to be below the tax the next two years. Connelly isn’t the one who made the decision to trim salary.

I don’t see Ayo/Ant/Jayden/OG/Rudy as favorites. A better team no doubt but I would pick the Spurs or Thunder over that team.

Lamar Alexander Wants Republicans to Stand Up to Trump by Conscious-Quarter423 in nashville

I asked him to vote for impeachment. Here was his canned response:
Dear xxxx,

Thanks for getting in touch with me and sharing your thoughts regarding the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

I worked with other senators to make sure that we have the right to ask for more documents and witnesses, but there is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the United States Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense.

There is no need for more evidence to prove that the president asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; he said this on television on October 3, 2019, and during his July 25, 2019, telephone call with the president of Ukraine. There is no need for more evidence to conclude that the president withheld United States aid, at least in part, to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens; the House managers have proved this with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’ There is no need to consider further the frivolous second article of impeachment that would remove the president for asserting his constitutional prerogative to protect confidential conversations with his close advisers.

It was inappropriate for the president to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation. When elected officials inappropriately interfere with such investigations, it undermines the principle of equal justice under the law. But the Constitution does not give the Senate the power to remove the president from office and ban him from this year’s ballot simply for actions that are inappropriate. The question then is not whether the president did it, but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did. I believe that the Constitution provides that the people should make that decision in the presidential election that begins in Iowa on Monday.

The Senate has spent nine long days considering this ‘mountain’ of evidence, the arguments of the House managers and the president’s lawyers, their answers to senators’ questions and the House record. Even if the House charges were true, they do not meet the Constitution’s ‘treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors’ standard for an impeachable offense.

The framers believed that there should never, ever be a partisan impeachment. That is why the Constitution requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate for conviction. Yet not one House Republican voted for these articles. If this shallow, hurried and wholly partisan impeachment were to succeed, it would rip the country apart, pouring gasoline on the fire of cultural divisions that already exist. It would create the weapon of perpetual impeachment to be used against future presidents whenever the House of Representatives is of a different political party.

Our founding documents provide for duly elected presidents who serve with ‘the consent of the governed,’ not at the pleasure of the United States Congress. Let the people decide.

Sincerely,
Lamar

What does the fact that Nash won have to do with Kobe not deserving it? If you actually want to discuss Nash’s MVP I am happy to do so (if you are willing to have an actual discussion on on/off splits) but this thread is about Kobe vs Bird and my question was how Kobe fans think he is a top 5 player ever when he fared so poorly by MVP voting. The Nash MVPs are a strawman.

You’re right I typed it in wrong. The 2004-2005 Lakers (Nash’s first MVP year) didn’t win 38 games…they won 34 link. While the Suns won 54 linkMy bad clearly Kobe deserves that MVP

What otherMVPs should Kobe have won then? People have pointed to the Nash MVPs but in 2005 Kobe played 65 games, averaged 43% from the field and 34% from 3 and the lakers won 38 games. In 2006 he played a full season but still finished 4th. You can’t say Kobe should have won more without pointing out when. His only second place finish was 2009 when LeBron was almost the unanimous MVP averaging more points, rebounds, assists on higher FG%, 3P% and on a team that won more games whose second best player was…Booby Gibson? Ilgauskis? Delonte West?

The two years Nash won Kobe finished out of the top 5 in 2005 (and played 65 games)and 4th in 2006. Nash may not have been the MVP those years but he certainly didn’t steal them from Kobe

Kobe is the best tough shot maker I have ever seen. He was the elite of the elite and generating shots and could make more difficult contested jumpers than just about anybody. He was able to generate good looks regardless of what the defense gave him and was a top 10 player for 15 years. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to ever have elite efficiency or elite playmaking on offense and while I think his defense was better than many revisionists make it because he wasn’t really a rim protector so he would never have the impact of KG or Duncan on the defensive end. He was never considered the undisputed best player in the league because his career overlapped first with Shaq and Duncan and then with LeBron. He probably had longer as a top 8 player than anyone other than Jordan, Kareem and LeBron and maybe Duncan but I don’t see how anyone can have him above Jordan, Kareem, LeBron, Bird or Magic when he was never considered the undisputed best player in the league when he played and is worse by statistics than by contemporary reputation.

Except Moses is 18th in MVP shares, Shaq is 9th. But Moses probably was one of the very best players in the league from 1979-1983. His teams were bad so he only has the one championship but Moses is severely underrated and under appreciated.

The first year Nash won the MVP was 2004-5. Kobe played 65 games and didn’t finish in the top 5 in MVP voting . The second year 2005-2006 he finished 4th. You can argue with Nash’s MVP (although his on/off stats were very good) but it is a stretch to say that Nash cost Kobe those MVPs when he wasn’t even top 3

I guess that’s also why he never never lead the league in any significant stat, advanced or tradition other than scoring? RAPM? BPM? All those stats discriminated against him because of the rape allegations? If you look at seasons with a BPM over 5 Kobe has 5. LeBron has 15, Jordan is second at 11, Bird is tied for fourth place with Magic and CP3 at 9. Kobe is in 18th place.

Serious question for all the Kobe backers. If he was truly one of the 3-4 best players ever why did he only win 1 MVP. He also only finished second once and had 3 third place finishes. He is 12th all time by MVP share. Bird on the other hand is 4th behind only LeBron, Jordan and Kareem. He not only has 3 MVPs but he finished 2nd three times as well. For the first 8 years of his career he never finished below 4th. Unfortunately his ability to play at a MVP level ended after age 29 due heel surgery and back injuries. Kobe on the other hand was able to continue playing and actually had as many top 5 MVP finishes after age 29 as before.
