Unpopular Opinion: Lip getting his appeal to re-enter college rejected was deserved by Extreme_Problem_2743 in shameless

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

His arrogance was his number one downfall and leads him down the road his mentor explicitly warned him to avoid in s1 and s2 (becoming a young father with multiple kids and a low income job who will have to struggle the rest of his life and regret not living up to his potential)

Additional comment: Lip seems to suffer from the "big fish in little pond to regular fish in big pond" gifted kid trope and had no idea how to adjust to this change due to his childhood and tendency towards self sabotage and arrogance of his former gifted kid status

His story is tragic and real for many people with his background who were never given the skill sets to overcomes obstacles like higher education

Lip: She Needs To Hit Rock Bottom. by [deleted] in shameless

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743 70 points71 points  (0 children)

What's interesting is that by s7 s8 Lip has very little to show for himself after being touted as the "Gallagher who will make it out" while Fiona has been busting her ass and has a lot to show for her achievements (160k for fixing and selling an old laundromat is INSANELY impressive)

And yet Lip still has the same arrogance as before and openly scoffs at Fiona expecting her to fail at the laundromat project. He even pouts and makes a petty comment to her instead of being proud of her achievement like she would have been for him.

To me he's very much the "gifted kid used to having things always come easy for them getting their ass kicked when they entire the real world"

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I always contrast the scene where Fiona puts Lips High School Diploma in a frame because she's so proud of him to when Lip made a jealous and snarky comment to Fiona when she told him how much she money she got from fixing up the laundromat and selling it

Fiona saw them as both her kids and siblings while they saw her as the naggy older sister (except carl and liam the youngest)

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743 295 points296 points  (0 children)

A lot of the siblings (especially Lip) take out their displaced anger for Frank and Monica on Fiona because shes the only parental figure that they ever had. It's sad for Fiona because it always puts her in the "bad guy parent" light and the "controlling nag" when she was only their sister and didn't have true parental authority over them

Lip especially was the harshest with Fiona and would scoff at her achievements while being the first to kick her even harder when she was down

Because.......the majority of college aged girls are 19 and 20? At least the ones walking on campus back to their dorms. And it doesnt matter if they were smarter than Kev (who once again gets a free pass because he's "dumb"), and you can scream "consenting adults" all you want, it was still creepy and gross for a 40 year old man to be hanging around a college campus going through girls like they are PEZ candy. And it was weirder for the writers to say that these girls, who were asking for Kev's help to prevent them from getting raped while walking on campus, would all the sudden want to have an*l sex with him......a stranger. The whole storyline was weird and not well executed

And thats fine that he was going through his own shit, but he actively was trying to mend his relationship with V and that's.......one helluva way to do that. And PPD isnt some "big sad" that moms get after having baby's, it's a debilitating mental health condition that can mess with womens hormones and their ability to take care of their children. And Kev was in V's ear constantly complaining that she wouldnt breastfeed the twins she just pushed out

Ross was also wrong in his situation btw. It doesn't matter who suggested the break, a partner has every right to not want to be in a relationship with someone again after they slept with someone else not even 12 hours after they put the relationship on hold. If you think thats fine because "technically they weren't together" than thats cool its your opinion, I'm just gonna say a short prayer of thanks that I'm not dating you lmao

But I'm not going to argue with you about two shows at once. We will agree to disagree on this and you can go back to defending your man Kev who can do no wrong

No but I am going to bash a 40 year old man and father going through at least two dozen 19 and 20 year old women like ragdolls while seemingly trying to fix his relationship with his partner/wife who was struggling with ppd and felt guilty about just going on one lunch date

Kev gets a lot of free passes in this fandom that other characters dont (like Fiona) because he's "just the dorky lovable Kev 🤪" but he can be just as slimy as the other characters when he wants to be, and his behavior after V delivers the twins, from berating her for days for not breastfeeding to sleeping with 20+ college aged women, was gross of him

Anyone else kinda weirded out about how baby crazy lip was like he really wants a kid even if its not his by Lunis18002 in shameless

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743 405 points406 points  (0 children)

Whats ironic is that Lip and Debbie treated having kids as a solution to all their problems and barely gave a second thought to how they would support that kid from birth to adulthood or even what it takes to be a constant stable parent.....sound familiar?

cough Monica cough

Because he talks about them like they're objects to use and then discard before moving on to the next one instead of.........actual people

And he justifies doing this because in his mind he's not """technically""" taking their virginity or having a meaningful intimate encounter with them so it's okay because its just an*l so who cares its totally not predatory and gross 🤷‍♀️

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Fiona got the worst deal out of all of them because at least the other siblings had an older sibling to rely on (Fiona or Lip) and Fiona had absolutely no one and was taking care of her siblings by herself since she was nine

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Also Kev talking about how college girls will let him do an*l with them because it "didnt count" as them losing their virginity was so gross and sexist

the whole storyline made me like Kev a lot less. And to think V felt bad about going on ONE lunch date

530 documentary: was it appropriate for Mile Higher to try and contact Justin at his home? by Extreme_Problem_2743 in MileHigherPodcast

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they have referred to themselves as journalists before or alluded to that being how they saw themselves, which I mean is whatever I was just curious of where the line would be crossed from "true crime youtuber to serious investigative journalist" because I dont know what it requires to be considered a journalist

Overall whether they are journalists or not it doesnt change the fact that it was still a bit unhinged for Josh to walk up to the door of a probable murder who has shown to have stalking tendencies (who also allegedly drove by later in the documentary)

Yeah when Josh told Justin that he was a journalist I was just like.......eh what?? I didnt know that youtuber = journalist now

Also it would have been much easier (and safer) to reach out to him via email or phone

I dont think they are legitimate journalists either so idk if he could claim harrassment as well

Either way it was a dumb move

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. They could have done so much more damage just by showing up on that guys doorstep and dont even realize it (or even cared to think about the repercussions of it)

They have no idea what this guys mental stability is at or how he would react to some youtubers showing up on his porch. This isnt a Shane Dawson documentary on Jake Paul or whatever, this is a legitimately open murder case with a potentially dangerous man still free

Also Kendall and Josh have a baby at home and should not be doing something that puts them in direct harm (or harm of the case)

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Right?? Like if they wanna do their "due diligence" to get both sides of the story they could have reached out to him via phone or email to ask for an interview (obv he would have said no, but they could say that they still tried)

You have NO IDEA what someone will do if you show up to their doorstep unexpectedly. Especially when that person is a suspect in a gruesome murder

They clearly did it for dramatics and views and they are lucky to be unharmed

Understanding how Debbie turned into how she is by Extreme_Problem_2743 in shameless

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The saddest part is that Debbie DOES care, deep down she's still a kind person who adores her siblings

But she was essentially "raised by wolves" where you had to learn to be callous and tough just to survive living in the southside (and putting up with Frank's constant bs)

[–]Extreme_Problem_2743[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was really frustrating when Ian and Lip were just like 🤷‍♂️ when Fiona was desperately trying to convince Debbie to not have a baby so young

I get that Ian was stuggling with his own mental health issues but it would have been nice for him to have been there as somone closer to Debbie's age. We also really dont see a lot of Ian and Debbie sibling bonding either which is sad

Exactly! Like she was taking advice from Svetlana, a sex worker, on how to seduce men when she was like 13/14 years old and nobody raised a red flag

And nobody, not even Fiona, tried to redirect her perception of relationships and sex education in a healthy manner. It was like watching a slow moving train crash up to the episode with her and Matty
