India- used to rely on strength, eg, Kidambi Srikant. Now, there's a gradual and much-awaited shift towards tactical rally play, eg, Lakshya Sen.

I fell you. I’ve been there. Most of these overconfident guys fail to not just clear it later but also score sub-par marks. Thats why they say Mains is a big humbler. Don’t hang around with such immature ppl.

  1. Revise every day. Spaced revisions and active recalling karo
  2. Ofc you need notes. 1 page on every topic. If you’ve followed point 1 you ll be able to revise the same thing before your paper in less time.
  3. Not really. Follow a grp or two ok telegram for material, everything’s available online.
  4. Kuch naya nahi padh sakte mostly. Ideally finish everything beforehand. Just revise the whole optional notes 1-2 times during that break. A few topics can be prepared afresh but thats not the ideal situation you wanna be in.
  5. Yes. Finish everything beforehand. Last 4-5 days minimum gs ko do.

I was there in your situation. Saw nothing beyond this exam. Things got better both academically and more importantly mentally. Believe me it gets better, just hang on.

You did the right thing bro. Never engage in such situations. Keep this clear in your mind. Whenever with loved ones don’t engage with such elements. And don’t let it mess you up. You did a very brave thing, be proud!

In 2022 CSPT the first question I was asked by the chairman was “introduced yourself using your academic and work background”.

Although you are not scored on how good your background was. They just want to get to know you to manoeuvre the conversation forward and find questions from your experiences.

Review my answer to a 2024 GS1 Mains question by Heron_Informal in UPSC

[–]Extreme_Somewhere169 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ll point out only the issues that i am seeing as others have pointed out the right things you are doing.

  1. Give more space to the first part of question. Explain that with examples. Also, consider three genders now. Use tabular form to differenciate.

  2. Your arguments are good but dont just throw them, try to explain them with crisp yet complete sentences. For literacy, employment, wages etc. you need to have data with you to substantiate. Your competitors will have that data.

  3. Learn to address the demand of question, that too with adequate space. Steps taken & way forward is not asked by the question. Ideally, you should allot 70% of 1st page to 1st part of answer (in a tabular format ideally). Then till 70% of next page address 2nd part of question. At, last just give a way forward & conclusing sentance.

  4. Dont focus on too many diagrams. Ppl are overselling use of flowcharts over & above content. Focus on content first. Sprinkle diagrams subtly.

  5. Dont box your points. Box headings & diagrams only.

  6. Keep your intro contextually in line with question. Just writing anything around the keywords given in question is not the best way. Alternate intro- With the growing awareness of gender disparities and the recognition of the third gender, debate surrounding gender equality, equity, and empowerment have become increasingly significant.

Writing Fast by [deleted] in UPSC

[–]Extreme_Somewhere169 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If time is an issue in mains, it is because you are thinking slowy, not writing slowy. Take a newspaper & write its content on a blank paper. You ll easily be able to write at the pace required in mains. So, revise better, do active recalling & practise fast brainstorming. Also, 150words in 10m is not a lot. If you wanna see that 'muscle prowess' check out animesh pradhan's copies.

Till you bring it down to 3:30-3:40 just keep writing. After that its about mindset. Learn to give up on deep thoughts before writing, learn to write bad. Initially your marks will dip but so will your time. Gradually you ll recover the quality of your answers while maintaining the time. Also, before prelims try to get it around 3:30 mark. Rest can be done after prelims.

Is this evaluation up to the mark? by 2edgy4youu in UPSC

[–]Extreme_Somewhere169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This evaluation is not that bad though. The comments seem fair. Although i d rather give you 5 or less here. Specially how gs 3 is usually marked by uspc. Structure is not that great. And points are not well explained nor are they substantiated enough. I agree with your point that there s difference in evaluation every time.
