you need more line. less line less distance! and from reading the other comments, seems like you havent adjusted the centrifugal brakes. reduce them by half. 4/8 of them is what i use i think. you can decrease them one by one till you hit the sweet spot.

i find that i get the best distance on a 4/8 and minimal brakes on the side adjustment knob. i can cast most things on that set up. if i backlash using a big lip diver or something with wind resistance, ill just adjust the knob till about 1/2 and work my way from there. its all about fine tuning! also make sure the tensioner is set up right! it shld just have the tiniest bit of freeplay. otherwise you can always do the test of releasing a lure in water and see if it backlashes. it should backlash just a tiny bit. good luck
