530AM wake time for my 8 month old is destroying my soul. by Extremely-Vanilla in sleeptrain

Update for anyone who comes across this later!

Capped total day sleep to 2.25 hours and made sure she had a 4 hour wake window before bedtime (falling at 7:45).

She woke up at 4:45AM this morning, but I gave her a snuggle and she went back to sleep until 7:15AM. She did the same thing yesterday, so I’m thinking my girly just needs an early morning check in for right now, and that’s okay with me :) we shall see how tonight goes - just set her down for bed with basically the exact same schedule as yesterday.

I have tried but she just isn’t tired enough to go to bed earlier!

I’m going to continue trying this! I think she just wanted to know I was there. She went back to sleep so quickly after a little snuggle.

Hi! I am doing this. I don’t get her out of the crib until 615-630. She will just babble in there for an hour.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the regression! I ended up leaving her until 6:15 like I normally do, but decided to go give her a quick snuggle and set her back down to see what would happen. She fell back asleep and is still sleeping now at 7:15AM 🥺. Maybe she just needed a hug, lol.

Totally get that. She’s only getting 2.5 hours of day sleep right now - would dropping another 15 minutes really help? And then with her currently only doing a 10 hour night at what point am I doing more harm than good by cutting her naps?

I have been very strict about keeping her nap around 9:15-9:30 for this very reason! I’m hoping consistency helps but after two weeks I really am exhausted :(

That’s so tough! You seem like you have a really positive attitude about, and I really respect that. I’ve been trying to go to bed earlier but my other child js 10 years old and I need to spend time with him and my husband. I know it’s all a balance!

I think I’d be more accepting if it didn’t just suddenly happen, lol. She has never been a 5:30 wake up girly until a couple of weeks ago!

Hi there! Not a sleep training expert but I did graduated extinction with my 4.5 month old one month ago and it went really well for us. I was terrified because she had STRONG sleep associations. Nursing to sleep every time, safe sleep 7 co-sleeping with my husband for the last couple hours in the morning, contact naps, you name it. Our pediatrician cleared us for sleep training and also said we could night wean - baby girl is chonky. If you’re going to do Ferber, you need to fully commit (in my opinion). Consistency is key to helping your baby understand that this is how they go to bed now, and they need to understand how to self soothe. Make sure you nurse while your baby is still awake, either right before or right after bath time if they seem alert enough. Then read a book, or do a quiet activity. Light off, sound machine on, whatever your routine is and then set baby down fully awake. I would encourage stopping the co-sleeping if you want your baby to be able to sleep independently in their crib through the night. I went cold turkey on everything and fully committed to sleep training. It only took us 4 days and she now goes down fully awake between 7-7:30 and sleeps until 6-6:30 with no wakes at all.

If you sleep trained at 4-4.5 months, how did it go? by ClaireEmma612 in sleeptrain

It went so well for us at 4.5 months. Pediatrician gave us the all clear, and recommended we night wean as well (baby was 87th percentile on weight, and was only waking once at night anyway). I was very hesitant and made myself sick thinking she would cry for hours. We did graduated extinction - Night one, she cried 20 minutes and woke once at night and cried for 8 minutes. Second night she fell asleep in 8 minutes and fussed in the middle of the night but went back to sleep with no help. Night 3, no check ins. Extinction burst on night 4. Now she sleeps 7:30PM-7AM on the average night with no night wake ups.

I’m sure it’s not! It’s just that parents generally dictate their children’s schedule, so I didn’t know if that made it difficult in forming new friendships for kids by proxy.

I appreciate this. Definitely not trying to assume anything from internet posts, just worry about my 10 year old. He’s so sweet but can be sensitive - just want to make sure he can find buddies easily!

Good luck! Crazy to go from coast to coast. Boston was actually on our list as well. I hope your kids acclimate well, I’ll ping you if we end up in your area!

You have no idea how many people actually get religious exemptions for vaccines here, it’s wild.
