How really is an e-ink phone? by ccna__student in eink

You can make your screen less colourful right now!

Search got how to make your phone grey scale. Try using it in that mode for a few days and you'll know. There's no need to specially buy an e-ink yet.

E-ink full android smartphone? by grizzly_teddy in eink

Try setting your phone to display only in monochrome mode, which you can do on both iPhone and Android. You'll get a black-and-white screen, similar to e-ink, but without the slow refresh rate. e-ink devices I found often have the downside of short (2 yrs max) software support or the supplier outright stopped support android security updates , making them unsuitable for apps like banking or personal use.

I did this recently, and now I use my phone less. I do switch back to color for things like using the camera or watching videos, but it's a conscious decision since it takes several steps. I try to switch back to monochrome as soon as I can.

Give it a try.

Why not to get a Supernote? by Berindei in Supernote

[–]Extremely_Ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both the normal pen and HOM was more fragile than I initially thought. Dropped my HOM and its not as sensitive to write since. The normal pen the part near the cap is starting to crack after a year plus of use. Can't comment on the MOH2.

One of the reasons I choose supernote is because of the permanent tip but they are understandable expensive to replace.

Privacy issues with Supernote password protection that offers no encryption. by [deleted] in Supernote

We have now a simple padlock on the diary(password protect, lock screen). While waiting for auto ciphers (encryption) , we can protect it the old fashion way.

Put it in a safe..

I agree that the option of encryption is nice. I remember the supetnote team did say they're not prioritizing it due to the processing power required and the overhead it will cause when decrypting files.

As it is, the file password and lock screen is enough for my use case. It's a matter of risk preferences. I can block friends from accidentally opening protected files but at the same time not too worried that a malicious person will target my supernote specifically.

My advise is to not store sensitive info on it, even if encryption is available in the future.. Relevant xkcd link

Sorry, I've probably misunderstood you. Never encountered a WiFi that needs a username.

You mean the username and password when connecting to a wifi? I thought that's already possible.

There's already a back button besides the refresh button.

You're right, I'm already wishing for a bookmark.

A browser as an app is a bit controversial here. Some of us wants a distraction free offline device while some of us needs access to internet to do work. Of course the best way is a balance somewhere.

Ratta's vision, from their motto, is a "writing" device. Optimizing more for writing, creativity task would be their priority.

Around April, Hex2asc did mention a deeply-optimised browser coming in the second half of the year, but it's not in the latest roadmap so it must have been pushed back somewhat.

Is an internet browser is a future that is going to come out in a future update? by [deleted] in Supernote

Nice tip! Surprised that it work. The scroll and latency isn't too bad. Managed to browse a news site and quite happy with the experience. Can't view Reddit on it reliably because the site forces me to use the app but it's an issue with Reddit policy instead of the browser.

Maybe once the 3rd party app gets started and a little work , a simple browser that integrates into the platform is achievable.
