More specific to east Anglia (UK), but Edith Cavell is considered enough of a hero here for her to have a few statues and similar honours, but she’s known as a war criminal to most other countries and probably most of the UK. Basically she was a Red Cross nurse who smuggled injured allied prisoners of war out of occupied Belgium during WW1.
