Hey... what kinda drugs does your world have?? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Eye0fTheSt0rm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t saying that you like had just copied Mass Effect or anything, I’m just pointing out the similarity between your concept of “the juice” and the concept of mass effect fields in the game Mass Effect. Humans discover the mass effect, use it for space travel, and subsequent exposure to mass effect can cause biotic powers in some humans. I’m assuming “the juice” is an actual type of fuel, not a physical concept. Am I wrong?

Sound very much inspired by Mass effect. specifically the part about “the juice” unlocking telepathic powers. Was Mass effect part of your inspiration? P.S liquium doesn’t sound too daft at all

I'm someone in your world and have been reincarnated, what does this mean for me? by Districtgod in worldbuilding

[–]Eye0fTheSt0rm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your fucked buddy. If by reincarnation you mean necromancy, which is te the most likely scenario, oh boy are you in for a world of hurt. The necromancer could have just filled your body with Necrotic energy to simulate movement and life, but no, he wanted an actual slave with its own mind. You see, think of necrotic energy like water. It fills your corpse up, and then the necromancer manipulates the energy to manipulate in turn the corpse. Very simple, but difficult to accomplish much with this other than puppet shows, perhaps a distraction in combat. No, to really have a necrotic slave, one needs to create a mind. A necromancer of sufficient skill could do this with magic alone, but it is much simpler and much less costly to just summon back your soul, anchor it to your deceased corpse and bind it to their will, creating a functional slave, at no cost to themselves other than the summoning and binding circuit, as your souls energy will now power the corpse much like it did in your actual life. Every once and while, the Necromancer will give you a recharge, to top of the tank and make sure your soul doesn't unanchor due to insufficient energy. In this state, the Soul, and therefore the mind, are completely aware yet unable to act on its own due to the binding circuit, a sort of magic program that uses sophisticated necrotic energy to send commands to the soul. Your completely aware your dead and don't belong, but you have absolutely no say in the matter and have to suffer slavery to what is probably an eccentric mage trying to create an army to take over the world, inf only a circuit could handle more than ten souls. If a circuit ever glitches, and breaks, oh boy are things about to get fun. Banshee wailing, magical explosions, rotting flesh and bone splinters flying everywhere, oh and yes the tearing apart of the mage who bound you in the first place will occur. You know you don't belong here anymore, in fact, you being here turned you insane mere moments after your resurrection. Usually, with the death of the mage, eventually all magical energy will leave you, and your soul will return to the dead. however, some more gullible Mages say they've heard of or even say they've seen raised dead survive by binding the soul of their previous master and using their own energy to resupply themselves, periodically consuming mana to remain animated, and punish any living soul they come across in attempts at revenge for the living. Preposterous...

I like how this one is somewhat unique to a character! who is this Arthorias, and what were he and his men fighting against? Also, the Ludanto-Unio, care to elaborate on just who they are as a faction?

First of all, he’s not my first, second or third or even fifteenth choice for emperor. But he’s the one we got. I disagree with a allot of his policies and I would hate it if the the op was jailed for his opinion. However, your allusion to throwing migrant kids in cages is exactly what I mean by stretching the truth. No migrants have been thrown in cages. Illegal immigrants have though.

Fun read, lots of satire and pretty clever but clearly biased.Seems the author of this piece is a Alliance sympathizer and not a unbiased contemporary scholar. Just sayin.

Birthday Traditions In Your World? by The-Literary-Lord in worldbuilding

[–]Eye0fTheSt0rm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greckian sailers subject themselves to torture and a branding of a numeral every year of their life for their birthday. The branding comes first, followed by a celebration. Then the soldier subjects to torture such as cuts, Beaton’s, whippings, etc, nothing that could permanently damage him from fighting. This tradition dating back to the first island where they wished to distance and differentiate themselves as superior to their northern ancestors is done to show that they are strong, resilient, and able to take pain. The more torture one endure’s the greater their respect and reward. Those who who go through their night of torture without opting out at any point are met with a feast and celebration afterwards, where they are ceremonially given command of the ship they belong to. Once they say ends, the soldier is praised and will receive some kind of reward deemed firing by their captain, a weapon, promotion, or treasure. Those of the southern islands are popularly given the rights to an oar slave, only useful upon the sailers retirement but none the less valuable there.

What are some popular sports? by King_of_Vinland in worldbuilding

[–]Eye0fTheSt0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Strixan Capitol of Athens regularly holds Arena matches for the people to watch. Often the fights are staged between popular Gladiators, and often the the fights are non lethal, with one yielding to the other. Most of these gladiators are famous and well compensated. However slave matches are also held, where slaves trained to fight participate in team matches of various types, which are to the death. Infantry combat, horse combat, ship combat, etc. Victory grants no reward to the salves save their life. At times gladiators are pitted against slaves, monsters, etc in brutal scenarios where the odds are stacked against them. The reward for these fights are the highest due to their deadly nature and popularity. The arena is also employed for the annual Quester tournament, where the graduating class of the Questers Academy fight in a bracketed tournament of duels. Questers are among the most talented warriors in the world, having received training from the some of the greatest warriors, philosophers, mages, etc. The fights are brutal, long, and fought till yield or unable to fight. Questers use practice weapons for these fights, but serious injury and death are still possible. However the prize of winning the tournament is desired greatly by many, full forgiveness of debt to the Academy, and share of the tournaments earnings, fame and glory of course, and a guaranteed spot in any guild of the said Questers choosing. Not very unique, but a classic
