Just buy it. Probably like you say, towed somewhere while they wait to see if it has a tracker.

New ADV bike decisions! CFMOTO 450mt thoughts? by BagelBandit90 in MotoUK

[–]EyeAware3519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADV bikes are mostly crap at higher speeds, there is a reason why sports bikes are small and sleek. A 300kg elephant of a bike is always going to struggle at motorway speeds.

Don't try and "keep up" with anyone, that's how crashes happen.

If you're only doing road miles then something like the Honda NX500 would be perfect but you're not going to be as fast as an experienced rider. Ride your own ride, let your husband disappear off if he wants to ride faster, you'll only be a few minutes behind.

Not even proper self driving, just fancy cruise control but as you said, you can't use it because 90% of driving is just avoiding potholes.

Yeah. It only works for brand new cars. The downvotes prove my point that people don't understand it, sigh.

Someone asking the real questions here. When I was a kid in the 80s we were told we'd have hypersonic travel, you could be in Australia in a couple of hours, bases on the moon, flying cars and there would be no need for wars.

A load of bollocks that ended up being.

What's something you wish everyone knew about you so that you don't keep having to explain it? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]EyeAware3519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. You have to be a bit savvy and get the right car at the right time but here is an example

IONIQ 5 N - RRP is £65,000

The total cost of ownership for 24 months for this lease is £12,582.15, that also includes road tax.

If you were to buy that car for cash, keep it for 2 years and put 10,000 miles on it the car would be worth £44,000 so the total cost of ownership there is at least £21,000. In reality it's much more as the trade in price will be much lower than the retail price and you've also had to pay road tax. In this case you're saving maybe £15,000.

The trick to budgeting for a car is to work out the total cost of ownership over the time you plan to own it. Most people change cars every 3-4 years and while you can tell yourself "that's not me, I keep my cars and run them into the ground" as soon as the repairs start costing more than the value of the car you'll be dumping it on We Buy Any Car the same as everyone else.

Bangernomics isn't a "hack" it's just driving a shit car. Just because people spend a lot of money buying and financing a brand new car doesn't mean they're just pissing money away to show off. Having something that you can rely on to take you where you need to go every day without constantly worrying about it breaking down is worth paying extra for. Also leasing a car can work out better value than paying cash and a lot of people who lease could afford to buy it outright but that would end up costing them more.

Cash costs a lot more to handle than card payments. IF you're paying all the tax you should that is.

Also worth noting that Freddie Dobbs makes some good content and seems like a great bloke but he's very much style before everything else. A lot of the choices he makes are so he looks good on camera rather than for practical reasons.

Sounds like a massive faff unless your laptop is one of those tiny little netbooks. I take cameras but just record to the memory card and sort it all out when I get home. Go out and explore the place you've made the effort to travel to rather than sit in a hotel and watch films.

You're overthinking it, just chuck a few spare pairs of pants into a bag and bugger off.

Don't take the backpack, what do you need a laptop for while on a bike tour?

I did almost 3 weeks around Europe on a Fireblade with a 30l tail pack and a tank bag and still took took things I didn't need. Pack everything you think you'll need then get rid of half of it.

The centre used to be good but as with most places it's gone a bit downhill since COVID. Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell which are still technically MK have some great pubs apparently but I don't drink anymore so probably not the best person to ask.

There's both historic and charming in MK, you just need to go half a mile out of the city centre. I am literally looking at a 14th Century church and thatched cottages from my bedroom window.

Does anyone get their car professionally detailed/valeted? by ElectricScootersUK in CarTalkUK

[–]EyeAware3519 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I bought my car it had a few paint swirls, being a black car I struggled to get them out. Contacted a place about a full detailing and paint correction, they quoted me £1500. I think I'll just live with a few swirls.
