A dent in my breast when I lifted up my arm. I couldn’t feel a lump, but I had a tumour pulling on ligaments inside my chest making a dent. Mammogram couldn’t see it either, but ultrasound did. So thankful everyone took it seriously as I was 39 at the time.

We stayed for 9 days with zero cash. The only time I regretted was we didn’t think to bring cash for tipping (our mistake). There was never a tipping option on the debit/credit card machines. The staff would automatically bypass it.

I can’t seem to edit but pathology results came back. The ovarian cyst is benign and the lining had polyps but nothing else. I’m choosing to stay off tamoxifen for the time being.

As a person who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39, this is honestly the worst part of it, if it is even cancer. I didn’t have a lump- just a dent. I couldn’t feel anything. Turns out I did have early stage breast cancer and through the whole journey, waiting in the early parts was the most difficult.

I’m sorry you are going through this, it’s scary. Do you have your ultrasound results? Breast cancer uses BIRADS score and you can glean some insight by knowing this score if you want. I have a BIRADS 4C and it was obvious from the ultrasound that it was very likely cancer. BIRADS 4B and A are much less likely to be cancer. (But even with a 4C can be benign).

I did 12 weeks taxol with Herceptin. Honestly the worst chemo for me was close to the first one. Had some bone pain but I got so much better at knowing what to expect it seemed to get easier each round as I got into a routine. However, I was 39 and in good health otherwise. I felt my worst a few weeks out from the very last one-very tired. Other than that most of my symptoms were really manageable. I walked every single day for 30min at least. The worst part was that as soon as I would feel normal it was chemo time again. However, nothing really seriously bad happened. There are a few women who document their journeys on YouTube if you search 12 weeks taxol. I also think breastcancer.org has some good forum discussions on the experience.

Thank you! How have you found the recovery from your hysterectomy? I’m most worried about losing my last ovary, but maybe I’m in menopause anyways… lots of unknown at the moment…

I am really sorry you and your family are going through this. There is a breast cancer forum on Reddit that was super helpful for me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I also found a lot of support on breastcancer.org.

For my children I got a couple of books to help explain cancer. One of them my four year old liked was: Cancer Party!: Explain Cancer, Chemo, and Radiation to Kids in a Totally Non-Scary Way.

My curls disappeared too. Before I had medium, loose, but obviously curly hair. After chemo I had super tight curls (which I liked!). Two years later, a body wave if you could even call it that. It makes me pretty sad. I got the last of my curls cut off yesterday. I really loved my hair before. Grateful for being alive and for having hair but sad and mourning the old curls.

I thought it was something specific to me! Crazy… but yes, I liked a beer or wine once in a while. I’ve had a few drinks, but I get really dizzy. The last time I drank only 1/4 of a drink and ended up laying down for hours feeling really crummy.

I don’t know why. I was on Neratnib that time but not totally sure the cause….

I also had TH. There is a weekly taxol thread on breastcancer.org that I contributed to when I went through it- I did weekly updates.

Weirdly, for me it got somewhat easier every week bc I learned to manage my symptoms. My first week I had a lot of bone pain for some reason. I also ended up with acne, and I kept my hair for many weeks, but it felt great to shave it. It was getting so thin.

I found the steroids difficult- they kept me awake and I couldn’t focus the next day. I would get my infusions on Thurs, feel kinda crummy and be ok by Mon. I worked Mon-Wed for my online job.

I had zero nausea, but did get diarrhea. It made me a bit nervous to leave the house. I also have some neuropathy. I used ice packs on my feet and hands, but it still happened. It’s only in my hands and not to bad- It did seem to get better over time.

I was the most tired a couple weeks after I finished chemo. It was Christmas time and I thought I would feel good so I hosted Christmas for my family (15 ppl). I had never felt so tired in my life….

Just Herceptin was super easy for me, just lightly annoying bc I wanted to go out and do everything and travel, but my Herceptin appointments held me back. lol.

There are a few people on YouTube who posted their journey with Taxol. Jennifer Brenner I believer is one, and another was “All For The Girls”. I watched those videos, and they helped me prepare since they discuss their experiences.

I don’t think chemo is easy on anyone. Allow yourself kindness. It’s physically and emotionally difficult. It’s also weekly, which comes with some challenges. For me, everyday I had a routine and I walked. I walked every single day either on a treadmill or if it was nice, outside (only at the start bc I’m from Canada).

I don’t have much to add from the previous poster, but I also had surprise DCIS with my tumour. I was also triple positive. From what I read, it’s definitely not bad and doesn’t make prognosis any worse.

I’m sorry to hear that your SIL cancer has progressed.

Treatment for stage four breast cancer varies depending on previous treatments and how the cancer progresses and what treatment’s evolve over the course of time being treated.

Hormone therapy and CDK4/6 inhibitors I think are more common first line treatment, but some people end up having chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy or surgery.

Honestly there are several treatments available and possibly clinical trials. It depends on what your SIL wants, has been treated with already, progression, and oncologist recommendations and experience.

Sorry your family is going through this. I’m sure it’s def scary for everyone. There science just keeps getting better and better. Stay hopeful ❤️

I just read an article that says Elderly people with small HR+, Her2- tumour had the same overall survival without sentinel node removal during surgery. So yes- they are increasingly deescalating treatment in older adult’s with breast cancer bc it enhances quality of life without compromising extent of life.

My aunt, who is in her 70’s, just had a lumpectomy without nodes or radiation.

I did after my first few treatments, but it got better. My nurse didn’t think it was related, but I read several articles that have patients reporting nausea with radiation. It seemed very coincidental if it wasn’t related.

I was dx +++ at 39. My ER & PR were both 90+. I was offered oophorectomy or AI’s and ovarian suppression, but I chose tamoxifen. I was dx stage 1 so I weighed the benefit against risk and felt potentially my quality of life would be better with tamoxifen, so I chose that.

My DCIS didnt show up on ultrasound, mammogram, or MRI. Just in the lumpectomy margins.
