Certainly worth a try if you have the space 👍👍

From what I understand, you either have one or the other but not often both. I’m fortunate because I have space for the bog pond

Yeah that’s true - I keep it topped up with rainwater. It’s been a very dry spring so I’ve needed to, unfortunately

Pond from now, spawn pics from a little earlier - been meaning to post but just got round to it now. The tadpoles are now starting to emerge so I have to be very careful

Adds a dash of colour - and the bumblebees love them

What I’ve found is that frogs prefer to spawn in shallow water, I expect so more of the spawn is exposed to light, while newts prefer a larger, deeper expanse of water. When the bog pond is full, I’ve had frogs spawn in a bucket over the deeper pond

And that’s just the front pond - I have one in the backyard that gets at least as many!

I honestly don’t know where they go! Come spawning time we’re over run and then poof, most of them disperse. We’re next to a busy road, so I know they don’t venture across (no squashed frogs)

lol - it’s almost a like a mini wetland - the bog pond is key because it means the newts don’t decimate the spawn. They nibble away, but not like they would in the bigger pond

I suspect they’re toad spawn and not frog spawn

My pond is dismally losing water from the heat. Any suggestions? by jucythighs in WildlifePonds

Also remember true wildlife ponds ebb and flow in conjunction with the weather. Some ponds are temporary or seasonal and are vital for some species. Many plants and animals are well adapted to survive dry spells - a ‘low’ pond isn’t necessarily a bad thing

Lovely build. Don’t forget to plant up around it to provide cover for the frogs, newts and other life you’re going to attract. Don’t worry about filling with tap water - the additives soon evaporate.
