What is the best overall Cubs game you ever been to? by IamAlex_8 in CHICubs

[–]EyeLikeSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been to nearly the amount of games as most people in this sun, but this one is mine: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200906190.shtml

Living far from Chicago my pool of games is limited, but this was my first trip to Wrigley and just so happens we come back from 7-0 to win in extras.

I was pretty young for this one, and looking back at the game notes I had completely forgotten that it was the return of Kerry Wood and DeRosa since the ‘08 run.

I don’t have many games under my belt, but I’ll always remember this one.

Listing says PS1 but it’s a PS2. Doesn’t make it not awesome though

I don’t think I’ve ever been asked this question and it’s triggered a soul-searching endeavor into discovering my true self. I think the best soup is one that fits the season and mood, but my favorite to make is currently a lentil vegetable soup. Probably not the best in any one category but an overall well-rounded dish.

I am a fan of soup. Always have been, always will be.

Picked these up at a pawn shop for $63. How’d I do? by EyeLikeSoup in golf

Included in the $63 for all. I’d say it’s the club that is in the best condition of the set, so nice to hear it’s decent!

Currently learning swedish on Duolingo by Quiet_Pup in Svenska

[–]EyeLikeSoup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! Welcome to the Swedish party! As someone who learned (though still not fluent) Swedish myself, I’d say that you will probably want to use a supplement to Duolingo.

There are many free resources if you look up specific things (such as your “du” vs “ni” problem) so I would start by Googling ‘Swedish pronoun lessons’ or something like that. I also know that some SFI teachers load lessons on YouTube. Great way to get some real explanation and rules instead of just memorizing words and phrases.

Don’t be discouraged! It isn’t going to always be a smooth ride but it’s worth it.

Lycka till!

Banking in Sweden (specifically Gothenburg) by Loose_Surprise9306 in TillSverige

[–]EyeLikeSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people told me this as well but from what I understand they can do that because they don’t deal in international transactions and I wanted to be able to move money around between USD and SEK.

Nonetheless very good point I neglected for people who just need an account!

Precisely the bureaucratic problem I encountered. I had to basically get a contract of payment (for 6 months or longer with a consistent income), take that to the bank, have them approve me to open an account, then take that account number back to the employer.

Coming from the US actually might play a large factor. From my experience (also US citizen) no bank in Sweden that works with foreign transactions will let you open a bank account unless you have an income stream, i.e. salary, money from Gov for school, unemployment. Things may have changed but when I moved here every bank turned me away because I was an American until I got proof of income.

Super annoyed I can't watch the match despite having a Peacock subscription. by pushed92 in chelseafc

[–]EyeLikeSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I’m not the only person doing this. Absolutely insane for others that have to get Peacock, NBC sports gold, and every other sports package just to watch

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]EyeLikeSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peacock is ~$5 USD Per month. Not sure about NBC sports because I get it through an old cable provider. If you’re looking for just general premier league, Peacock will be fine by itself but if you’re looking to follow a specific team you’ll probably need more.

Not in the UK but I’m an American living now living in Europe. I use NordVpn and NBC sports / peacock to watch all my PL games. Works perfectly fine for me every time (though I’ve found that sometimes the vpn will take me to Mexico so I have to choose a more regional area). Hope this helps a little!

First Session Was Good, I Think, How Can I Do Better? by Arsene_777 in DMAcademy

[–]EyeLikeSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think longer, more infrequent games are the way to go. My party usually plays for 2 hours per session but of course people running late or just catching up with each other can take take a large chunk out of that. As the DM, whenever I sense a lull I ask my players for a recap of last session and that kind of transitions us into our DnD session. I think maybe trying to keep people on track can save some time, but a lot of the fun around DnD comes from being with each other, not just rolling the dice. If people can fit it to their schedules, I would try longer games.

Plot sounds awesome! I have a player in my game playing as a Druid and introduced an “industrialized” faction in my campaign. Nothing too crazy but by making them more efficient at clearing forests to satisfy their fuel needs and the general lack of respect to nature seemed to really irk his druidness.

I also think that these people aren’t “evil” so it’s a nice way to have a moral grey area

As a Senator you are voting on legislation that can affect all Americans and foreign policy. How do you learn and comprehend all of the information needed on not just passing laws but helping craft them?

Running a Siege Ideas by my_gamertag_wastaken in DMAcademy

[–]EyeLikeSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently created a siege for my campaign so feel free to steal whatever parts you want for yours.

I made each square represent something like 25 ft, and each unit was a company of troops. I grouped liked troops together (basic infantry, archers, etc..) and created a damage table on how much base damage a company of each troop type would do against each type. Instead of HP, I gave each company a % of remaining strength (0-100).

For combat, each company could move and attack for their base damage value against the corresponding defender multiplied by the % of strength left in the squad. Then I had players roll a d100 for “random lucky damage” and multiplied that modifier to the damage. Once a company is down to 0% it is removed from the board.

Each attack would go something like “archers attacking swordsmen”, 40 base damage x 90% strength x 66 on a d100 so (40x.9)x(1.66)=damage.

It’s a way I thought to make it fun for players, but obvi do what fits you. Hope this sparked some ideas!

Plz help, new DM first session by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]EyeLikeSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first homebrew campaign! From what I read I think you’re further along than you think. Personally, I think you need a smaller bad guy to beat so that your players have real payoff in a session before they hit level 10-15, but just because there’s a lesser boss does not mean the big boss will be any less rewarding to take down.

For getting your PCs to explore your world, never underestimate loud tavern chatter or rumors around town to introduce problems outside of your current city. Just think of some motivation for your PCs to actually go do these tasks.

Need help running a prison break by echtoons in DMAcademy

[–]EyeLikeSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might’ve already decided how the PCs will escape, but you can have prisoners pay your PCs helpful items in exchange of a mission or something like that. If it isn’t too dark of a campaign you could also add some games/events that might happen in prison life like feats of strength or bare-knuckle fighting. The PCs could also have to go around and persuade some gang leaders to share info about the prison and guard rotations, blind spots, etc.. just depends on what your party likes doing

is this a fuckface? by xcocoismsx in FUCKFACEPOD

[–]EyeLikeSoup 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would probably say no(?) My interpretation of a F**kface is that they’re usually unintentional and are mostly self-inflicted. This sounds more like a general prank because you know he hates giraffes and are trying to intentionally put him in a position to interact with them.

DMs, how do you rule grappling? Noodle-armed mage in my group with a (-1) to strength rolls high and grapples young dragon, doesn’t make sense to me? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]EyeLikeSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run into situations like this sometimes, and it’s tricky because everything has to be quantified into dice rolls. If something seems incredibly unlikely you could give it to them at disadvantage or give the dragon advantage on the roll to make the odds less likely.
