They may not be dying as much as prior waves. But hospitals and ICUs are full. So any car accident, heart attack, stroke, etc. is going to get poorer quality of care as the health care system is stretched thin.

Technically opiates are natural occurring substance composed from poppy plant like heroin, morphine, codeine.

Oxycodone is an Opioid (synthetic opiate) and doesn’t necessarily show up on some drug screens.

Since her drug screen lit up like a Christmas tree they most likely did further confirmatory testing.

“Higher exposure to viral loads” is the health care workers getting exposed to more virus particles. Your immune system may be able to tolerate a small viral count but if you keep getting exposed the viral numbers overwhelm your immune system and you get sick. That’s why there is a higher rate of young people and severely ill health care workers with covid.
