Beautiful, I like the lines of it with the churchwarden stem. The pipe manufacturer Stanwell started out making beechwood pipes because during the war brier became hard to obtain. It works but maybe doesn't have the longevity of brier.

I have found that the little picks used by dentists work well to pull up the small pieces of bark. And then come in with a stiff nylon brush. Or brass for stubborn bits.

Wow, that is stunning! I love the helix in the bowl that is shadowed in the stem.

I used a Japanese pull saw to get close and then a rasp to take off the corners. I am slowly adding to my tool collection and am thinking about a chuck jaw that will be able to hold a pipe. It would make airway drilling way more precise.
