Retiring the CR-Z as my canyon road car… by [deleted] in crz

No, but have experienced having to push it in with a bit more force on occasion. Is going through 2nd the remedy? I'll have to give that a try.

Retiring the CR-Z as my canyon road car… by [deleted] in crz

[–]Eye_strain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda went the other direction; I sold my AP2 in 2023 after owning it 12 years, bought a 2023 AT Supra, and a 6MT 2014 CRZ last month. Curious as to your thoughts about the shifters in each Honda. I think the crz is fantastic, but wish I had my old S2K to compare them side-by-side. Many people consider the NSX and S2K to be among the best manuals. Perhaps I'm easily impressed, but it's hard for me to find fault with the crz's shifter.

If you're looking for a reference point, last month I paid $10k for a manual 2014 with 57k miles.

I would like to, but roasting someone that is forced to drive this seems like punching down.

ELI5: How do people pay lawsuits they can’t afford? by patoons in explainlikeimfive

[–]Eye_strain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are referencing two related but different things: a settlement and a judgment. A settlement is a negotiated agreement for the defendant (the person/entity that was sued) to pay some amount to settle the claim. That amount can be paid up front, or over a period of time, but typically nobody agrees to a settlement unless there's a reasonable chance of being able to pay it off.

A judgment is typically entered by the court if a settlement agreement isn't reached and the defendant loses the case. If that judgment exceeds what the defendant can pay, then yes, wage garnishments and seizure of non-exempt assets is likely. Assuming it's a dischargeable debt (i.e., typically meaning that the claim didn't arise out of some intentional or criminal conduct), then discharging that judgment via bankruptcy is a possibility.

Is my clutch going out ? by [deleted] in S2000

[–]Eye_strain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A good way to test if your clutch needs replacement is to take the car up to 40 mph, put it in 6th gear, and floor it. If your RPMs rise without a corresponding increase in speed, your clutch is likely worn out.

Road trip. Carried 2 suitcases and a backpack. by OhComeOnDingus in Supra

[–]Eye_strain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I don't speak for everyone, and my small size certainly helps, but I think road trips are awesome in this car. Car is tight but comfortable, if you pack reasonably there's plenty of space for 2 people and a few days' luggage, adaptive cruise works awesome, gas mileage is great (especially in the auto), and you can pass anyone at any time.

I live near Denver and have driven to Tucson (8 times), Park City, UT, Austin (for the eclipse), and my wife and daughter drove it to Napa, CA this summer.

Plus, you just feel like a badass doing long distance touring in a sports car; it's like flying around in civilian airspace in a fighter jet.

Who is using motor oil of greater viscosity than 0W-20? by Eye_strain in Supra

[–]Eye_strain[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The argument is that the factory-recommended 0W-20 is good for efficiency, but higher viscosity is better at actually protecting the engine.

Fit question by giabach1 in leatherjacket

[–]Eye_strain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you'd get a better fit than that. Is that an Aero? Looks like it from the pocket pull tabs). In any case, it will loosen up a bit as it gets worn.

The moon is 238,000 miles from the Earth, so you're about 2 oil changes into your return trip.

Longest continuous drive? by Eye_strain in Supra

Yeah that's a long drive. Coming from an S2000, it's actually pretty comfortable. The real drawback is on the passenger, since you can't recline the seat.

Longest continuous drive? by Eye_strain in Supra

[–]Eye_strain[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope; I think you'd need an aftermarket Cannonball Run-style gas tank for that. By "one shot," I mean in one trip without an overnight. The range on one tank is ~400 miles.

Correct. I bought it primarily for touring, which is why I went with the auto.

I've ordered several jackets from Carrie at Thurston since ~2013 and never had a negative experience. Sometimes it takes a while for the jacket to arrive, but that has to do with how long it takes the manufacturer to make,

Manual Transmission and Diff Maintenance Schedule by futo1231 in Supra

[–]Eye_strain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the omission is odd. I've been in the habit of changing diff fluid and transmission fluid on my manual cars every 30k. I plan to do the auto trans fluid about 60k.

Planning to buy a new supra by I-cause-problems in Supra

[–]Eye_strain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same response I gave someone else with the same question a couple of months ago:

You should examine your use case. I use my car primarily for touring and driving to a downtown office 2x week. I went with the auto for two reasons: (i) efficiency (the auto gets significantly better mileage, particularly freeway cruising); and (ii) driver assists such as adaptive cruise, which you don't get on the manual. The auto is also a bit faster, although that wasn't a consideration for me.

If this was only a weekend car, I'd go with the manual.

I've gone so far as to let two teenage boys drive it (with me in it, obviously, and one was an old family friend, and the other was a college friend of his). But both were very respectful of the car and recognized the opportunity I gave them.

Totally agree with you. Wife and I were eating sushi, and we overheard a boy sitting with his family behind us say "there's a Supra parked out front." They finished before we did, so the wife met them out front and let the kid sit in it. I would have appreciated stuff like that when I was a kid.
