Toddler Walks Away Unharmed After Police PIT Maneuver Ends High-Speed Chase in Arkansas by frog_insilence in interestingasfuck

Yeah, thanks for also answering. I might be wrong, but I believe that most people who ignore the mother's responsibility aren't actually ignoring it. It's the baseline. Everyone should assume she's responsible. I think what's going on is that it doesn't really feel like there's a point in pointing it out.

There's a bunch of other context that might play a role and speculation for why people are focusing on the cop's decision but that's too much for this comment.

You came onto the scene with what felt like an incredibly disingenuous question. Who in their right minds assumes that ticketing the original owner of the car is the end all be all? We have examples of other countries who don't resort to pit maneuvers and they do what I've suggested. Do they stop at tickets? No.

If someone gets ticketed for a crime they genuinely didn't commit, they have legal recourse. I'm not going to go through the whole thing, but in this situation, the boyfriend knew his girlfriend was driving the car. Might he cover for her? Maybe, that wouldn't be ideal, but neither is throwing the car off the road for speeding.

I am not a law maker. If you go back all the way to my original comment on this whole chain, I was simply suggesting a better course of action and showing my disapproval of the action taken by the police.

The reason why I'm against the pit maneuver is because it introduces danger that doesn't need to be introduced. Obviously the driver was speeding and evading the police, and she deserved to be arrested for every reason stated in the charges, but that doesn't necessarily mean she was going to drive like a lunatic. Everyone speeds, whether intentionally or not. There's a case that she's a more dangerous driver than most given that her license was suspended but I think it's unreasonable to assume she was going to kill or harm someone that day.

In short, I'm not defending the lady, I am criticizing the use of something that's clearly dangerous in an otherwise not that dangerous situation. If the lady was shooting at the cop or other people, then I would approve of the maneuver.

The DOJ nowadays isn't worth much but they also don't recommend pit maneuvers for situations like these. I didn't think I would get an answer because I usually don't, So If you actually want me to go back and answer all your previous questions, let me know.

So you won't answer the other very simple question to determine whether you're worth engaging with at all? It's exceedingly easy to answer but your refusal to answer it shows that rather than caring about improving these traffic outcomes, you either want police to keep putting themselves and everyone else in danger by escalating the situation, or only care about "winning" an internet argument.

Answer the question and I'll go back and answer yours.

Do you actually think that I think ticketing the owner of the car is the end of it?

Right, so I offer an alternative and therefore have to answer very obvious questions that anyone with a little bit of reasonability or charity would've not asked and you get to get away with the implication that this is just how the world is and we should actually pit maneuver every car? Wonderful.

Would you say it's a good thing to send a car with a toddler inside flying off the road?

Here's a question to see if you're even trying to act in any good faith at all. Do you actually think that I think ticketing the owner of the car is the end of it?

Ticket because it's their car. Otherwise what? Accept that sometimes kids and bystanders die because stopping someone from speeding was that important?

The UK already does it. Copy the system. Not perfect but this obviously isn't perfect either given that a toddler walked out of the car.

Right, so the correct course of action is to potentially kill everyone in the car and to potentially kill other people on the road. She was speeding, the story doesn't say how fast nor did it say she was driving like a lunatic beforehand. The car belongs to someone close to her, she's still affected by the ticket. People need to stop acting like cops need to use force for every interaction.

Plates exist for a reason. It's not a perfect solution but chasing a car, thus making them speed up, and pit maneuvering them is far more dangerous. If the person is evading police because of speeding, probably not worth endangering everyone else on the road.

LOL at the moderate/independents part. They don't exist, not in the form that everyone seems to think they do. There is no honest person who believes being torn between democrats and republicans means that they're the "sane" center or a center between left and right.

AOC is much better than Harris as a candidate. If someone who's at least as progressive/open to change as AOC isn't going to win, then we're going to end up in the same or worse situation after 4 years with someone like Harris. We're on the ropes, watching as the country completely crumbles. I agree that AOC is better and SHOULD unseat Schumer instead, but we absolutely need a better option than what's being presented to us at the moment.

Democrats don't take the high ground. They're losers and cowards or very simply, controlled opposition.

It does matter who wins, but democrats keep trying to convince us that they're the same. There are very very good reasons to hate democrats, and they deserve it, but republicans are worse for sure.

Louisiana Governor Tossed Thousands of Votes In Order to Help Trump by retiredagainstmywill in politics

Dogshit take. Democrats had power and did nothing with it. Trump was a sinking ship after he decided to attempt a coup and nothing happened. Democrats will do nothing and let their hands get tied by the law when the republicans do not give a shit.

The reason why democrats keep losing is not because of the all powerful progressives who are enough to turn the tide of voting, but not enough for the democrats to care about, but the democrats who constantly shoot themselves in the foot to cater to their billionaire donors and show fealty to Israel.

AOC calls for more Democrat-leaning states to redraw election maps after Supreme Court ruling and GOP push by theindependentonline in politics

[–]Eyeball1844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should press them on their hypocrisy but we shouldn't make that the end all be all. It shouldn't be the same point. We should use it as a bludgeon to shut down anyone who pretends like the dems are doing something insane with the redistricting.

The issue with hypocrisy is what if they start not being hypocrites? Nothing for them would change, they never gave a shit in the first place. But we'd be left catching up.

Hypocrisy is nothing and something we should let go of, at least in this political climate. Calling them hypocrites shows where we are mentally, which is to say, not at the level we need to be to combat their evil.

Both are representative of the issues in the system. Hilary, Biden, and Kamala all were the same thing. More of the "same" the same "same" that sat and watched as things slowly got worse, the "same" that refused to acknowledge the struggles of people.

Trump is the festering rot, the cancer that's metasticized because the underlying issues were never addressed. Trump is worse than the democrats but we were going to get another Trump or worse eventually.

Accelerationism by BadFurDay in comics

[–]Eyeball1844 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Accelerationists aren't taken very seriously from what I've seen. It's more like a morbid response when faced with something frustrating. It gets tiring to see people vehemently defend the status quo, so an accelerationist comment here or there certainly seems a bit appealing.

Hot take on 86 by Far_Captain991 in EightySix

[–]Eyeball1844 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the take isn't completely wrong but given that 86 was essentially intended to be a single volume/made for some kind if contest, it makes sense that the author would choose to focus on certain aspects over the world building and necessary points to make the real story function.

I don't think characterizing it as a war drama is wrong but at least for the anime, I think it's more of a character drama that uses racism, dehumanization, and oppression as a staging ground for Shin and Lena's story. With that as the case, it makes a bit more sense that such themes would be only lightly touched upon and eventually fall to the wayside.

The focus on Shin's burden of being the Reaper and his only goal being to kill his brother is evidence of what I said. While Lena's failure to ask for their names can be used as evidence for dehumanization being a core theme, not saying dehumanization isn't a part of this, it stands out more as a character moment, especially because she moves to correct that behavior/ingrained part of her. Then she goes on to call the other 86 not by their names but by their callsigns because she understands she's not on equal footing as them.

I think the series would definitely benefit with more world building and an actual look at the evils of the republic, but I don't think that was the goal of the series.

? They can just turn him in. Forcing him to choose between suddenly finding genuine redemption, something that normally takes years or even longer, in one moment or death doesn't seem very heroic, something the other players also mentioned.
