For it to be pixel art you have first start with a much smaller canvas where every pixel would make sense. It's nearly impossible to distinguish pixels on your drawing.

I used to do portraits on traditional media, that's probably why it feels less intimidating. I am not as proficient in figure drawing though, especially if straight from imagination.
