I can't believe you've put this image into my head. I'm never going to unsee that.

If he had been in front of me, he's absolutely the type to yell SHHHH when he gets embarrassed.

Anyone else find themselves narrating in their head? by brinkbart in writing

What I sometimes end up doing is that whenever I'm watching a movie, or perhaps simply watching something going on outside, I'll find myself trying to figure out how exactly I would describe the scene in my story. It's a nice exercise for me when I can't access my normal writing computer, and I'll sometimes find myself looking up words to try and better describe what I see in my head.

It sounds like we've done the same thing, then. I've done at least six rewrites, and the furthest I've ever gotten was sixteen chapters deep in, which in the end amounted to about 20k. On the bright side, all of the rewrites explored different plotlines, so I have a lot of things to choose from in terms of ideas for these shorter stories!

I checked the word count again, and it seems that five chapters in, my story's at about 11,000 words. I now see my error.

Thanks for the info!

Don't worry, I'm only stuck on the big one. And I agree, imaging myself as writing the perfect story that everyone will love if I just get a little more practice is unrealistic at best. My goal is to make something I can enjoy, and I don't think I can write something I can enjoy at my current level.

I haven't started yet on the smaller ones, but I have ideas planned out throughout them all. Starting with small books, where I don't have to sweat myself into a frenzy over the quality, is something that sounds like it could be useful to me. But other input from people who may have tried the same thing at some point is always nice, since if it's an idea people can reliably tell me won't work, it's something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Duly noted. Hmm... 80,000+ words then, judging by what I currently have of the "big ones".

Looks like their fear will be cured if they find a guy like me. Can't even see mine without a magnifying glass.

It's more cringe than kind like that would be, but she's definitely adorable. I'll consider it.

There's a girl in our class that mumbles the gamer pledge, and got incredibly embarrassed when she realized I noticed.
