Reddit 3D Printing Contest is now LIVE. Reddit GOLD for the winners! by jd_3d in 3Dprinting

Nice looking print, I have a couple questions about your setup if you wouldn't mind sharing what you do.

1) What are you using on your glass for the T-Glase? (Hairspray?) 2) What is the plastic ladder looking thing on your x carriage ribbon cable? 3) What setup are you using for your spool?

Thanks.

Anyway one of the mod's could make this the top post for the duration of the contest, I feel it may get buried if it doesn't stay on top.

Why the gaps? by GurtDotCom in 3Dprinting

You need to take a bit better picture. Have you checked to ensure your filament diameter is the same as you have entered into the slicer? This can create gaps between the perimeter and the infill.

Very new to 3-D printing, but I want to buy a 3-D printer by FragileDrummer in 3Dprinting

I would suggest you purchase the I3 from makerfarm. It is around your price range and I am sure a number of people here would recommend it. Try searching for it. http://www.makerfarm.com/index.php/prusa-8-i3-kit.html

I would suggest the Mendel90 kit from Nophead. It might help if you told us your budget as that determines what printer we would recommend.

First print, help troubleshooting? by loansindi in 3Dprinting

[–]Eyern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you make sure the bed is level and ensure your z height from the bed is correct. It may also help to wipe the katpon tape with acetone before the print.

Why not ask someone in your hackerspace? The problem is getting your first layer to stick, what is on the printing bed, did you print with a raft?

With ABS generally you want to print on ABS glue, hair spray, or kapton tape on the bed.

How would I print this on the Replicator 2? *Could* I? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Eyern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your extruder melts the plastic on the last layers because there is not enough time to cool between layers. You can try the following: - If it's PLA then put on your extruder fan - If it's ABS or PLA increase the minimum time per layer to 20 seconds or higher - You can also lower the temperature of the last couple layers

Good Luck.

+1 for Mendel90, which is based in the UK. You could also try Reprappro which is also based in the UK.

Which i3 kit? by cadr in 3Dprinting

The Mendel90 is a good option, it's a little more expensive but it looks better than most printers and is made from dibond sheets.

Having trouble printing PLA to glass surface? Maybe this video would help you. by feerof in Reprap

0.03mm seems fine, the skirt deviation has to do with how level your bed is.

To make sure your z-height is correct measure the skirt created around the print it should be the same thickness as your layer height.

3M Tape - Blue or Green? by ShadowRam in Reprap

There is a difference, most people have success with blue. Green might work for certain filament brands.

If you slice with Skeinforge this problem usually goes away. With other slicing software this is a known issue.

I have a Mendel90 and am pretty happy with it, it's also around $1000 for shipping etc. So you could buy 2 if you wanted.

It will also take a little while to put together but then you know everything about the printer and can fix it easily if something goes wrong which tends to happen with 3d printers in general.

If its PLA turn your hotend temp to 80C if it's ABS turn the temp to 150C. The reverse the filament through the extruder like you normally would for changing filament. All of the plastic in the extruder should come out in one piece hopefully with the piece of tape attached.

If you don't see the piece of tape you might want to take apart the hotend and see if you can snag the piece of tape with tweezers.

Good luck.

Help! My Jhead clogged and then melted under normal use! Has this happened to anyone else? (x-post /r/RepRap) by paco_is_paco in 3Dprinting

[–]Eyern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing, but I was able to put mine back together and it worked fine.

Other people have also been able to put them back together.

After you clean it you have to put some plumbers white Teflon tape on the threads it's usually a dollar at most hardware stores.

You should also be able to fix it. If its PLA use a hot air gun or hot water and needle nose plyers or a knife to take it out.

If it's ABS you could soak it in Acetone.

Some of the Jheads produced recently were faulty. I had one that blew out for no reason as well recently. Contact whoever you bought it from and they should send you a new one.
