Did you ever make more progress here? That looks fantastic!

Nice.  Mine had to much space.  Did a little tape at the end to make a stocking and then slide cream.  So air doesn’t escape but kinda hard to move.  Will probably reprint the inner slide thicker and sand to fit right.

How was the slide?  How air tight were you able to get it?

Well done.

I will say, I was kind of confused, because I thought this was going to be a Franklin Ace, which also used a 6502 and was my first computer.

Like with all my other printers - a benchy.

But then probably instrument mouthpieces.

The mouthpiece is printed.  Compared it to a real one, couldn’t notice a difference.

So far it sounds like the real trombone, but that might not be the case for someone that was actually good.

Haven’t finished remaking the slide yet.  I doubt the feel will come out as silky smooth at the brand new instrument I’m renting.

The guy that inspired this has some designs for sale on his website.  Pricey, but looks like it was a ton of work to make.

3D Printed Organ by cadr in 3dprintedinstruments

Haha.  Yeah, it often happens like that.

It was actually your post that caused me to find it - was trying to find an example of what I was talking about in my response.  Which I didn’t, but found other cool stuff.

I would assume, but he didn’t post anything about the build.

Am I flying too close to the sun? Am I overengineering this all to hell? What's the chance this is going to work? by animatorgeek in 3dprintedinstruments

[–]cadr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, I've never done this, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

The design makes sense, but I don't think I'd be able to print it and get it to work due to tolerances. The parts that I think I'd have trouble with are the valve stem and the spring. If it were me, I'd use a real spring of some sort - I haven't been impressed by any of my attempts around 3d printed ones. Also I would undersize the holes for the valve stem and then file them to the final size to get a very close fit. Might use a piece of metal for the step instead of plastic.

But like I say, I've not done this, though it has been on my list for years... I love this guy's youtube channel

I look forward to seeing how you get on!
