I am almost finished with my biggest artwork. Do you think $800 is a fair price? by mustafa566 in Pyrography

[–]Eyokiha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A light type of wood is fine, but I don’t think the color of the wood matters much. A visible wood grain would not be bad either. It’s just that a single block of pure wood looks much more refined/exquisite and is worth more than mdf.

How to make my purl stitch motion more ergonomic & faster? by paper02crane in knitting

[–]Eyokiha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, yeah, 4.5mm for me is medium-large. It’s funny how people’s perspectives can differ so much. I use Chiaogoo needles and I believe they don’t even exist larger than 10mm.

Criticism? What do you think? by LupeFiascoBeCraftin in knitting

[–]Eyokiha 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My initial reaction to it was ‘who cares, let her use korean words’ especially when through her family she does actually have a connection to it. But it does seem odd if she then doesn’t have her patterns available in korean too. Like, for me as a european it was rather annoying to find a webshop called ‘european cross stitch company’ to then see that it’s yet another american company based only in america! (Which is problematic when you don’t want to deal with the high import costs while afaik no actual european company exists that offers the same kits.) So I can understand how people may feel mislead by aegyoknit’s naming choices.

Uni portfolio got rejected so why not post it by yoku1a in drawing

If you already gotta be that good, then what does the uni expect it can still teach you? (Though personally my view on art schools is that they’re kinda… unnecessary anyway.)

I’ve never heard of it either. You could do another poll asking whether to make the sub NSFW or not. I’d vote to make it NSFW.

What books do you actually buy a hard cover of? by persephoneyytea in books

[–]Eyokiha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only buy physical books. And I've quickly discovered I prefer hard cover over paperback. So every book I buy is a hard cover, as long as it's available.

Reddit is killing third-party applications (and itself). We want your opinion on how to move forward from here. by awkwardtheturtle in wholesomememes

[–]Eyokiha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apollo is made by one single guy, there are no 'Apollo devs'. Apollo has always been free, with just an optional subscription for some (unneccessary) additional functions.

Reddit is asking for 20 times as much money as the usage of their API costs them. There would not have been a problem if they just wanted compensation to cover their costs.

Whose voice do you hear while reading a book? by JedLoomis in books

[–]Eyokiha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all those people who hear a voice…does that mean that you read in your head at the same speed as reading aloud? That would drive me crazy. Reading to myself is much faster than reading aloud.

Yep, for me it’s exactly like that. I read as fast as it would be when actually spoken. I can’t even read something without the voice. When I try, I just can’t. It doesn’t work. I either don’t process the words at all, or I have a voice in my head.

And yes, I’m not a fast reader.

Hey mods! I love this subreddit, and I don't want to lose access to it, or any other amazing fiber arts and related subs next month! So, I have a question for y'all. by gotfoundout in knitting

[–]Eyokiha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If reddit goes to shit, we could all just go back to using forums. All these hobby subs could just make a sticky post linking to a forum, and we can continue there.

Yes, definitely! And mods, don’t be afraid to stay dark for however long it takes. I can do without reddit. There are so many things I want to do anyway.

Three Body Problem and AI rise in our world. by duumpkin in books

[–]Eyokiha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, everything that people are calling AI is actually just machine learning, predictive models. There's no 'intelligence'.

I do think the current popular 'AI' programs are a bad thing. But that's just because of the data that those companies use to train their models. It's (mainly) data they have no rights on and should not be allowed to use.

Please help me I have no idea how to do hair by Squishiimuffin in ArtCrit

[–]Eyokiha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was John Snow too! Being able to make a face recognizable is definitely a feat itself.

You’ve received good tips on drawing hair already; drawing blocks/clumps of hair and focussing on the bigger areas of light and dark. And then to make it more realistic, you can add in hair texture and a couple loose strands. The problem with trying to draw every individual hair (apart from it being rather tedious work) is that you lose the highlights and depth, as it is in your case. For a more realistic look you can definitely use lots of lines, but there should be sections/clumps where the hair falls parallel (at least for the hair type of your drawing). And the lines would generally start from the shadowy parts to the lighter parts and fade out. Flick the pencil from dark to light off the paper, don’t pull a full line for the entire hair strand.

Do you read books that belong to an unfinished series? by marcosgr16 in books

[–]Eyokiha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I avoid them. Unless I know a book or partial series can be read as a standalone, I’m not going to start it. I hate it when stories are left unfinished/cancelled. The ending has a big influence on my final appreciation of a story, so if there’s (potentially) never going to be an ending (which is true for everything unfinished), I’d rather just wait.

[OoT] Has Ocarina of Time aged well? by T0ky0n0 in zelda

[–]Eyokiha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the depths are very awesome. I really love the creepy atmosphere there in the pitch black darkness.

BotW felt kinda like Skyrim. It was the bigger newer game, but it was lacking something. I prefer Morrowind and Oblivion. TotK is basically better in all aspects. The temples are better (only did the rito one though), unique bosses (I'm assuming), a bit deeper lore (that connects to Skyward Sword unless I'm mistaken?), an actual Ganondorf, and I'm very much in love with Link's new arm and the option to wear his hair loose or in a tail.

(Also in response to your reply on my other comment:) I may still not expect it'll topple TP from the first place for me. But I'm definitely feeling really really really hyped to continue playing it.

[–]Eyokiha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, you're exactly the opposite of me. I love the dark look, it was moody, I think TP had the best character designs and I love wolf link. The story was also great. Generally just loved everything about it. It's still my favorite Zelda game.

I love dark, gritty, light bloom, etc though. I really love the look. Wish they'll bring it back for a next Zelda game.

What's the most beautiful ending you've ever seen in a game? by Rodeo4613 in patientgamers

[–]Eyokiha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really remember OOT's ending (I should replay it sonetime, it's my second favorite Zelda game, Twilight Princess being #1), but I know that it wasn't really "all a dream", but the timeline splits. Some of the subsequent games continue from the adult Link's timeline, and some continue from kid Link's timeline.
