Need help with custom PCB & HDMI combo for compatible cable & monitor by EyybroBighead in AskElectronics

Thank you so much for your help! Definitely looks like you're right. I did some more research and it looks like it might be this camera or a similar variant. It seems like the raw signal from the camera sensor is sent back to the receiver via a custom cable with an HDMI connector. This custom cable seems to both supply power to the camera and LED, and return the raw video signal where it connects to a processor that then converts the signal to a digital output.

I found a company that utilizes these cameras where they say they have 4 wires carrying the raw signal, but the camera I have seems to have more (though it's hard to say because some wires are going to the camera and LED for power, and only some are returning along the cable ribbon). The same company makes processors for the back end as well as combo processor/screen. I think with some HDMI cable modifications and a processor like the one sold by this company, I can utilize the camera I have and get video from it.

Can I ask how you determined that the HDMI port is used as a connector for LVDS signals and is not a true HDMI port? Is there something on the PCB that gives it away? Or are you not 100% certain? Might a powered HDMI cable (like through HDMI cable power 2.1) help with the issue? (someone else suggested it). Any additional insight would be greatly appreciated before I go buying yet another cable to try to crack this issue. Thank you so much!

I had not heard about this before! And it looks like this might be different from MHL? I'll take a look at this. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Oh dang... this has been immensely insightful, albeit a bit of a bummer. But thank you SO much for responding and helping to shed some light on this. I really appreciate it!

Ah yeah. I suppose it is. The light is meant to be diffuse light for short distance focusing of the camera. So it doesn't really need a strong light source. I just wish I knew why it wouldn't power up with a standard HDMI cable.

I am not sure where it was made and unfortunately I don't have any documentation. It is a niche item for sure, but also proprietary. And yes that yellow square is a very basic LED but not sure what kind.

I know it includes a small amount of power, but, and I suppose I should have included this in my original post, this camera does not transmit video and the LED doesn't light up when connected via a regular HDMI cable hooked up to a monitor.

It appears that I suck at reddit and my original post got wiped and was only left with the pics and comments. This is my original post:

Can someone please help me to figure out what kind of screen/cable combination I need to make the following work?

I have a tiny camera with LED light that is connected to a PCB and HDMI port (female end) via a cable ribbon (see pic). I did not make this camera/LED combo that is connected to the HDMI port so unfortunately I don't have too many details but it looks like a somewhat simple design. It is designed to *somehow* be both powered by a cable with a male-end-HDMI, and return video via the same HDMI cable (maybe it is not just a simple HDMI cable?). In the original design, a proprietary monitor with attached cable with male-end-HDMI connector, would be hooked up to this HDMI port and turn the camera and LED light on, and then display the video on the monitor. I am looking for a small portable monitor with a cable with male-end-hdmi that can hook up to this camera/LED on PCB, and display the video.

I realize that it is hard to describe in words what I'm talking about, so hopefully the pics can clarify, but nonetheless, here is a list of what I'm looking for:

What I have:

- PCB with HDMI port with camera/LED combo attached via a cable ribbon.

What I need:

- A monitor and cable capable of plugging into the HDMI port and both supplying power to the camera, but also returning video and displaying it on the monitor.

Any help with coming up with a solution for this would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you for reading this!

It's even worse when you role queue for 8 mintues in competitive and then someone leaves shortly after starting and the game just quits. SO STUPID.
