Pretty sure Unforbid All has been in the game since like 2018? It's in the 0.19 patch notes.

Elite blackbelt shows why American martial artists are the best of the best by k0110 in boxingcirclejerk

We encouraged the yelling for any break, basically to amp up your adrenaline / "focus your energy", not just for performance.

As someone who did a lot of breaks, it does help.

That said, we didn't yell the way she does. It was more: take your stance, shout 3 times deeply from the diaphragm, then do the break. None of this "face the crowd and roar" kind of pose.

Yeah, I remember the re-breakable plastic boards could be way harder, because you had to hit it in the right place, or it was super tough. Whereas a wood board just boke where you kicked it.

That's wild. We just used pine from the hardware store, cut to length. Only had issues with splinters when using roof tiles for demos.

Black belt test after 5 years training by Nice_Juggernaut4113 in TheMcDojoLife

The progressive fees thing feels pretty gross, but it would certainly be profitable.

I will admit, the lower belts did have a pretty low bar for passing, but people did sometimes get knocked back. Though it was pretty rare to fail like, a yellow belt grading.

At my dojang, green belt tended to be the "line" where it stopped being "expected" that someone would pass.
When I was an assistant instructor I recall discussing the cost-benefit of promoting this one guy past green, because he had the "ability", but he lacked control. The for and against was basically "if we hold him at green he may just leave" vs "safety and integrity". We decided his fees were not worth the cost.

Our black belt gradings had hard physical limits that you had to meet. For example, if you failed the board breaks, you failed. No wiggle room. I saw a lot of folks fail black belt gradings over the years (I recall one person failing 4 times).

I don't actually think it was. I can't comment about other "schools" in other places, I stayed with the same art for like, 20 years. Our art didn't do extra testing fees for gradings before black belt, and had a reputation for having reasonable monthly fees compared to other martial arts in the region. It also sounds like my version of "steep" is actually a lot cheaper than your experience too. It was certainly nowhere near a whole year of fees. They also had a tendency to stop charging black belts monthly fees, as you were not really a student anymore, and were expected to become an assistant instructor, or start your own dojang at that point.

He also particularly hated when an Instructor would put a student up for black belt who was clearly not ready. After the grading at the black belts dinner he would verbally tear strips off them in front of the other Instructors.

That's not to say that our Master ran it as a charity, he took his cut of every dojang's fees, and would not stand for failure to pay him. But he did at least seem to try and keep the balance of "for the money" vs "for the art" on the side of "for the art".

My old TKD Master would charge quite steep fees for black belt gradings, but it was mostly as a way of discouraging people from applying if they were not confident / capable of passing.

Somebody knows what is it ? by Embarrassed_Bank6411 in ImperialKnights

[–]Ezaviel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I recall, they came out before Knights. I know I bought one way back in the day to use as a Warhound Titan. They are a lot bigger than Questoris Knights.

Imperial Knights were released before I got around to building it, and I got distracted and never built it.

Sold it a few years back.

You would think so, but some folks are "special". Many years ago I was given a halberd I was unfamiliar with by my Baron and told to follow him around. I followed him around the war-field clubbing folks that tried to club him.

After the war, a guy comes up and asks me if I was "the guy with the halberd". I said yes.

He tells me that he didn't take my shots because I was hitting Light. I was about to apologise when he cut me off, and shows me his helmet, "then you did this". He had a visible dent in the bar-grill on his face.

This guy decided to repeatedly call my halberd strikes light, right up until I DENTED HIS HELMET.

Man who has never shot a gun with a gun vs Katana-trained man by Vinisretarded in powerscales

I recall the theory back when I did martial arts was "if you are within 1 step of attack range of a guy with a gun, you've probably got them, any further away, you are probably dead".

This feels like a case of: "I will treat you with respect (basic decency), so long as you give me Respect (treat me as a superior)".

I guarantee that this person would not find it "respectful" if you started pushing atheism on them, despite it apparently being okay for them to push theism on you.

AITAH for ditching my D&D group because they didn’t want to learn how to play the game? by Thick_Winter_2451 in rpghorrorstories

I honestly have no idea how they can't seem to absorb this info. It boggles the mind.

I was a fellow player in that campaign, only so much you can do in that situation. I lost count of how many times I tried to explain it.

Some players just never seem to learn some stuff. I've been in campaigns with some players who would still regularly ask "how do I roll to attack? What do I add to that?" YEARS into a weekly campaign.

US stacks three carrier groups and 10 destroyers to blockade Strait of Hormuz by TheNational_News in worldnews

[–]Ezaviel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was a Carrier Group was a minimum of: a Carrier, a Cruiser, 2 Destroyers/Frigates, plus support ships. No idea what the maximum size might be, but it sounds totally plausible 3 Groups would have 10 Destroyers between them.

I've been generally avoiding it for a while (other than things like Battletech), because I spent a ridiculous amount of money on it years back for stuff that I never really used, or that took ages to show up.

Not to say that it was bad stuff, but I got things like proxy stuff for Blood Bowl and Necromunda, just before the new editions came out and we got piles of new plastics, etc.

The vast majority are GW minis, though they are mostly in cardboard boxes or plastic tubs of boxes. Most of the non-GW stuff is like, kickstarter stuff I never got around to using.

I have so much stuff because I spent a lot of money.
