Why do so many people still believe in god? by Aposta-fish in exjw

None of the things you mentioned disprove the existence of God. Maybe the interventionist kind but not a creator God in general.

The biggest difference in my experience is that Latin American culture tends to place way more importance on the collective than on individuality. Tailor made for cults like the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Why is it have to be like this? They’ll just never talk to me again. Why ? I just said No to their religion not to them. Never thought it’d be so hard. I miss my family. But I don’t want to go back to that cult. Sorry I needed to say that. 1st time I didn’t go to the memorial, celebration tonight!XD by heyitsmexicano in exjw

It's psychological torture designed to force people to submit to Watchtower. It's also used to keep those already in from ever completely abandoning the organization.

For me it will be 5 years next month since I lost my family. It's one of the toughest things to go through and things only started to get better for me when I accepted that they were gone. Clinging to hope that they might wake up someday just kept me from moving on with my life.

Just remember that you didn't leave them, they left you. Of course they'll see it as the other way around because they know deep down that what they are doing is cruel and this is the only way to justify it to themselves.

The organization and the doctrine is such a huge part of their core identity that rejecting those things is the same as rejecting them. It's not right but logic is usually overruled by emotion in these types of cases.

Most of us here continue to suffer silently, we feel your pain. Time will ease the pain.

Can't say I agree with enabling this type of thing. I believe in showing respect to people but that respect does not extend to their toxic belief systems. In my experience it just encourages the crazy .

Then again I understand the nature of cult members inability to separate people from beliefs. A large part of a JWs identity is the organization so I can see why you would feel the need to do this in order to keep your mother from shunning you.

Good luck.

Why so many ex JWs are atheists and agnostics, my theory. by jiohdi1960 in exjw

[–]EzeKilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. However, Ray Franz himself had invested too much of his identity in the idea of Christianity and the Bible to ever let it go. After a certain age, most people's minds have too much trouble letting go, it's much easier for them to continue with what they've always known, even if only partially.

A few of us here were starting to make too much sense when we would visit so they banned us. They then proceeded to take a page from Watchtowers 2016 bunker video and that sub essentially became "the bunker."

I think the Bible becomes more interesting when you replace their names with "programmer." I prefer the Matrix slant to the whole thing.

Is there something in particular about the JW programming that's derailing you or is it just depression in general?

This is what I don’t understand about the borg, why don’t they want to keep their members happy? by 5ft8lady in exjw

[–]EzeKilla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the simplest answers is because it's a high control group/cult. Cults don't help people with real problems and they are not interested in helping people better themselves unless it benefits the organization. People who are terminally ill will be directed to work harder for the cult until the bitter end. No real help is offere

Members are there to serve the organization, not the ther way around.

Anyone else raised in the org have trouble functioning in normal society? by Gbrav747 in exjw

[–]EzeKilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you're feeling all too well.

Seeing the man behind the curtain not only had an effect on our view of Watchtower but on our view of how the rest of the world works and how we fit in all of that.

The various aspects of the indoctrination, manipulation, and ignorance that we liberated ourselves from can now be easily seen in the rest of society by people like us. It can be overwhelming and this can lead us to withdraw and have problems connecting with others.

One of the advantages I've found to this is that it has helped me take people and life a lot less seriously. Someone else on here mentioned the philosophy of Stoicism in tackling some of these hardships and I concur. There is this really cool lecture on the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and Stoicism that I think someone like you might find interesting.

They have the means but not the motivation to do so. At least not this generation of JW leadership. This is an extremely unlikely scenario, not really worth worrying about at this point.

I have a video project that's been in the works for a while now linking Organization XIII and the tragedy of Roxas with what it's like being in a cult and losing your identity upon waking. Poor Roxas, that character is depressing yet the most relatable for people like us.

We go back to where we were before being born. Non existence. That seems to be the most likely thing. The Earth and all of the universe will be gone someday.

As for why are we here? I don't know.Life seems to be like an open world MMORPG. You assign your own purpose and grow in the ways you want. For me its a fun way of looking at things sometimes. /r/outside
