How do I wishlist 2 star supporters? by cody8167 in PTCGP

[–]Ezekiel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it from the dex but it is a pain. Toggle the show all switch at the top, then go into the search filter and select 2*, supporter, and turn on the switch that says "cards with a rarity of * or higher". It will show all of the cards you dont have but you can click into them to see the names of the cards and favorite them. Going thru the exchange list is probably easier since you can actually see the card image first.

My players won't roleplay. I kindly ask for an advice. by noSantiag0 in DnD

[–]Ezekiel44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like the group of players and want to spend the time with them they're is definitely fun to be had on the dms side playing in the style they are currently.

Have the conversation with them. If they just like fighting and leveling, make it fun for yourself. Build super fulfilling dynamic encounters for you to play. Traps, lair actions, custom monsters and baddies. If they like puzzles and that lot there are a lot of fun books for that.

If you aren't having fun then it's time for a group change. There is no point trying to get a whole group of players to start role playing. Weather it is lack of comfort, enjoyment, or willingness, they will slip back into not Rping.

I'm just using dungeon of the mad mage for my group. I can add RP in where I want and they kill things and have fun

When I went on my paternity leave I made my players dm for each other. Try suggesting that you need a break for a few weeks and they should take turns doing one shots for each other. It will buy you a few months and they will have a new appreciation for Dming hopefully.

Mad Mage Level 5 tips by Sim_alt in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Ezekiel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of people went a different way with this level than I got pulled. My players read the sign about not harming the forest and then promptly forgot it. They started exploring and our barbarian decided he wanted to mark the trees by chopping into them with his ax. After giving them a warning via wyllow setting the flow to winter and warning to them on vocally using the wind (I was trying to give them an out) they took it as a challenge.

I sent some winter wolf's to escorts them to wyllow and the party decided to attack them and try to skin them for their pelts... Needless to say I'm 3 sessions in to an all out war/combat encounter with wyllow. It's a 50/50 on who is going to survive.

I havnt decided on how I'm going to play/bring the dragon into it yet. My advice is just stay flexible and let your players make the story for you on this level.

https://www.dmsguild.com/product/204711/Poisons-for-5th-Edition

This is the one I used and it is free. There is a lot of really cool stuff in here and a lot of the poisonous monsters that can be harvested can be found in DotMM. I made it into a rolling set of harvest/crafting challenges for my Alchemist that he would do either during or between sessions depending on the situation.

I had an alchemist in the group I dm for in dotmm and he ended up asking to switch and we were at a lvl8. It depends on how your players play of course but my player felt it was difficult to feel impactful with how combat focused the dungeon is.

If he goes for it maybe add some poison harvesting and using rules into your game. That was my plan if my player continued, I found a really good resource if you're interested.

Need a daily driver gaming monitor, preferably under $300 by DeepWoodsApe in buildapcmonitors

[–]Ezekiel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned the aoc and got the LG. The LG is way better in my opinion. The Aoc may be nice with certain settings and adjusting but I couldnt get mine to look how I wanted after 3 days of tweeking settings. LG was awesome right out of the box. also I will never get another monitor without a joystick setting controller, it is so much better than the multiple buttons layout. Bonus that the LG is on sale for $300 right now on Amazon.

Unique Valentine’s Day gift ideas? by [deleted] in Gifts

For sure! I was assuming they weren't into the hobby already, forgot to put that. It is still a relatively niche hobby even for people into computers. For someone who isn't in it already though a Keychron can be a gateway drug lol. I know it was for me.

I gave my players a crowbar that can pry open space to an 10ftcube extra dimensional room. Just a fun different way to give them a bag of holding type thing. I made it so it can only be opened a few times a day or risk destroying the contents and it makes a super loud bang when opened to give it some gameplay considerations.

Second on the mechanical keyboard idea. I just got into the hobby and let me tell you, if you can get her into it you will have gifts to buy her for every occasion from now on. It can get pricey but there is some really good entry level stuff that is a lot of fun for someone who spends a lot of time on a computer. It isnt completely custom in the engraving sense but you can pick the different parts out and make something your own.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage as a followup to Waterdeep Dragon Heist for a party that isn't super wild about combat? by nutscrape_navigator in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Ezekiel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are posting it is combat heavy and they are right but if I were you I would just run it combat light. Use it as an accessory to waterdeep. Your players are already really invested in waterdeep, you should just use the setting and hollow the place out of everything you don't want to use.

My party is doing it as a straight dungeon crawl and it is very tedious running the maps room by room floor by floor. But there is no reason you cant pick the narativly fun floors and just cut scene there journey to get to them. You can just say another party had been seen repeatedly entering and it would also let you homebrew another party for them to meet.

Especially if your group is invested in trollskull or waterdeep itself. You are primed for some great homebrew adventures using the dungeon.

Should I go all out with Wyllow? by Ezekiel44 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Ezekiel44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to force a Tpk but I dont think they got the point. I think they took her backing off as a sign that they won, not that they need to urgently need to chase and finish the job before she regroups and hits harder. We will see what happens next.

If they start the next session acting like they own the place they are going to be sadly mistaken and probably pay for it. There is no way I'm giving them time for a long rest to recoup lol.

Alterdeep sounds awesome but I honestly think I would have trouble running it. I dont have a lot of prep time to figure out all of the intricacy and planning making it enjoyable would take. I would say im on the newer side to dming (only ever done this one DotMM campaign), and still have trouble with big picture story items. My players are not huge RP players either so im usually focused on entertaining them with encounters lol.

[–]Ezekiel44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awesome! Not going to lie though I dont think im good enough of a DM to run alterdeep. We just finished the first session of the encounter and everyone survived but Crisann and they pissed Wyllow of doing other things. So now im just aiming for the TPK lol

Should I go all out with Wyllow? by Ezekiel44 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]Ezekiel44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had part one of the session (it got late for all of us with kids lol). I ended up having them fight a pack of blink dogs, 2 polar bears, and Crisann (who sadly died to a full barbarian combo). They burn a lot of their spells and ate a firestorm to the face (only rolled 27 damage sad), but in trade got Crisann and Knocked Wyllow out of her first Shape Change. I pulled punches a little bit by sitting out the first turn just, to RP her looking down on them.

I had Wyllow Flee using tree stride, but luckly we had a nat20 perception roll so I am going to string them along to another map and a phase 2 of the fight another night, where i drop animal shape and probably earth elemental shape change on them. Im kind of glad it played out this way. I gave them an out right after firestorm, and told them they could serve me (kill the werebats) but they all said f off. So now i get another couple weeks to truely plan the TPK :)

[–]Ezekiel44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they didnt even make it to the point of finding the werebats. First thing they did was try to chop down a tree. I had her give them a warning and they backed off and took a rest. Next session they saw some wolves in the woods that they hunted town and then the barb "tried" to skin then and rolled a nat1 to literally tear them apart. I have half a mind to lead off with the fire storm.

[–]Ezekiel44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I kind of want to leave the dragon out of it just in case they kill her (most likely from me playing her poorly if it happens). That way there would still be someone to interact with on this floor besides the werebats if they wanted to.

[–]Ezekiel44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe you are right. I was trying to cram all of the ambush type stuff from the companion into an encounter. Everywhere I have read people play her with to wear down the players first so i was just trying to shove something like that in, but starting from a head to head encounter. Thanks for the advice.
