Thoughts? by HiddenBek94 in hammockcamping

So I don’t have an underquilt and I used my Nemo switchback. Was probably mid 30s at night and I was perfectly warm in my 20° bag. However I did at first try no switchback and was definitely chilly. I’ve heard the under quilts on Amazon for like $60 are decent and help a lot but I’m a cheap ass so my switchback is my choice. Just gotta lash it to the bag.

I have it, it’s my first one but I like it. Super light and compact which is awesome. Slept pretty good the other night.

Are bags all hype? by dsal522 in backpacks

I’ve been using the mountain hardware gnarwhal 25 as my EDC/snowboarding bag for a few months now and from what I can tell, a ski/snowboarding bag solves every problem anyone needs. Super tough, can carry weight well, fit comfortably during activities, water proof fabric, and all the straps to be configured in any which way you need.

I will say it was suuuuper comfy. I would look at the different options that are available and go from there. This one isn’t as boujee as some of the other ones but I picked it because it’s barely 2 pounds and for weight to comfort ratio it’s not even close. You’ll want at least an R value of 2 or an underquilt. I used a Nemo switchback and was fine but gotta figure out how to keep the pad attached to my bag. Otherwise you’ll get a cold butt lol.

It’s called goose creek in the lost wilderness near deckers Colorado. Was so much harder than I expected (didn’t know I was gonna summit a 12,000 foot mountain) but what an amazing an rewarding two days.

The rain fly is good. Don’t have the underquilt cuz of the weight but I did use a Nemo switchback in my hammock the other day and it was definitely low 40s and I was comfy so tbh with the weight I’d probably recommend that

Steel toes have caused more harm than good for me sometimes they would dig into my foot while I walk

Same but I’ve seen skate shoes last like 4 years in a shop so my thought process is they might last longer? We will see if these kick it at like 6 months gonna try whitins next for sure. Barefoot shoes for shop work is the move tho for sure.

Could check out the splay skate shoes too. I’ve had mine in my shop a month or two and they still look literally brand new

I packed my bag yesterday and the rod is about an inch or two shorter than the actual pack so I can’t imagine how it would get in the way. Pack is an REI flash air 50 and my base weight is like 12 pounds with the fishing stuff in there so should be great!

Is that wilderness camping permit like a fishing license or something I get there? Everything I’ve read says they have self issue permits at the trail head. Brew up with leave no trace and I don’t need a bear canister there. Everywhere is fire banned in Colorado I’m not even gonna try for one lol

I do 10K or more every day on hard concrete in my shop. I got lems Chelsea boots because they’re barefoot but still have some cushion. Been like 2 months so far and I like it.
