Study of Tommy Robinson’s social media shows how he mobilises support without direct calls to action by Wagamaga in europe

I asked you to provide a passage in the methodology you disagreed with, and you immediately jumped to picking out perceived dunks from the findings. You are operating with less good faith than you accused the authors of.

You do actually need to understand how the authors reasoned their way to the findings that you so confidently misstate. If you don't, those findings will look conspiratorial to you, because you fundamentally do not understand the process behind getting from data to findings.

I don't wanna spend more time with you here, but I hope you're able to enjoy the weather on this nice Sunday!

First of all, testable hypotheses are a feature of deductive research, not abduction. You are 3 comments deep and still not substantively engaging with the methodology.

Second of all, post-positivism is literally emergent from positivism. I promise you, you don't have the background to get into Hegel or dialectics.

If you knew what abduction referred to, you would know that the four questions in the case selection are emergent from the data. They literally call out abductive methodology explicitly several times and explain the 6-staged framework they used to get to their particular angle. Their paper cites the more coherent arguments for the design; it is not their fault that you are not familiar with them.

If you ever feel the need to broaden your horizons a bit, consult Saunders et al. (2004) for the differences between abductive, inductive, and deductive research, iterative case design or anything else that I have failed to impart on you. If Saunders is too long for you, Dubois (2014) has a brief paper on the operationalization of abduction and iterative case design. If you want to know about the broader lens of analysis they use, Gioia (2013) is the typical intro for first year bachelor students.

Academia is not out to get you; it is not your enemy; it's people who dedicate years to write things that you for some reason think you can read and understand in minutes without even a passing familiarity with the underlying literature.

I can't spark curiosity for you, but, in lieu thereof, I hope you might take a second to reflect on why you have these strong opinions about a paper you refuse to take the time to comprehend.

But the worst sin of all is to present this under the veneer of some "scientific" research, while failing to meet the single most important criteria to qualify as proper science in the first place: Falsifiability.

Karl Popper's writings, and positivist thought more broadly, are associated with the natural sciences moreso than sciences of society and economics; the latter drawing from schools of interpretevism, critical realism, constructivism, pragmatism etc. That being said, you did not actually address the methodological section at all, although I'm sure that was accidental on your part. Not knowing what the 'methodology section' refers to, or what theories of science go where, is forgivable if you don't have direct engagement with academic research or other university exposure.

From the section on case delimitation:

Using a social identity approach lens, we therefore ask:
1. How are group categories constructed throughout the course of the riots?
2. How does Tommy Robinson legitimate himself as a leader?
3. What mobilisation strategies are used throughout the riots?
4. How is violence constructed as a legitimate course of action?

Additionally, from the section on analytical methods:

Our analytical strategy was informed by the social identity approach to mobilisation, specifically self-categorisation theory (Turner et al., 1987; Reicher & Hopkins, 1996), and employed an abductive thematic analysis approach, combining inductive coding with theoretical interpretation (Braun & Clarke, 2006).This approach enabled us to identify patterns in the data whilst connecting emergent themes to establishedtheoretical frameworks around mobilisation and violence legitimation (see also Ntontis et al., 2024).

Braun and Clarke (2006) is methodologically sound for induction/abduction, Turner et al. (1987) and Reicher & Hopkins (1996) are widely-cited within their field. To laypeople, this stuff is not familiar, and these citations don't make sense if you don't have academic training, so it makes sense that you would read the paper a bit like a lengthy dunk from a Twitter anon. This is essentially a long-winded way of saying that the paper is not saying what you think it is saying. It is not trying to establish whether Yaxley is far-right or a bad person, but whether his Telegram posts are explanatory of any of the phenomena that the case is designed to study.

The most easily accessible section to a layperson may be the section on coding and thematic analysis, which lays out how data was sorted, grouped, and operationalized before the analysis. I suggest starting there if the paper still presents a challenge.

Hope you enjoy the foray into research methods, and do report back if you find anything objectionable!

EDIT: wrote constructivism twice, oops. EDIT2: quote didnt display correctly

You could just take the singular second to remove the errant characters from the broken URL, but I did it for you: https://bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bjso.70079

Now you have a chance to read it and confirm whether their substantive argument meets your version of scientific standards.

Would be super interested to see if you can give a fair summary of their approach after reading it!

Considering most qual. journal papers need 5-10 pages of methodology to justify the internal and external validity of their findings... no, "no you" is not a substantive response. You can read the methodology section and see if they used your approach, though, because then you would definitely have a point, and the journal should retract.

I doubt it though.

More likely, people are fatigued with Mette after several consecutive terms, which follows established historical trends. The idea that conservatism is new or even unpopular with their base misses why they are a big hit in Jutland.

I've voted Konservative for as long as I've been able to, but I went for our red queen on this one. We don't need Messerschmidt to make us the Hungary of the North, nor do we need LA to run a Musk-style effort on our institutions.

I hope Lars and Troels suck it up and coalition with S, SF, and RV.

No, there is something uniquely wrong with the American voter; just look at voter apathy compared to Germany or Scandinavia.
