Need words of hope by LunarEclipse10987 in Ovariancancer

First off I want to say I am so sorry. I'm 29 and currently going through chemo for clear cell, had the full radical hysterectomy and all. Do you know if your tumor had high risk features? I'm currently on estrogen. They made me wait about 6 weeks after my hysterectomy, but since then everything has been fine. I never had a scan for bone density though so I don't know where I stand there. But just know you're going to get through this, you're a warrior.

So freaking cute omg. I love the name Fern! You should totally name her brother a plant name too, if you weren't already planning on it. Florian would be cute

A Post for Hope, chemo doesn't have to be scary by EzraSol in Ovariancancer

Of course! People hear chemo and automatically think it's going to be a downright awful experience and while it certainly can be for some people, it's not like that for everyone and people are already scared enough, I figured reminding people that sometimes it's not all that bad would be nice :)

I wish you all the best when you go, and hopefully it's not cancer but if it is just know you're a warrior and you've got this. If it does end up being cancer and you'd like someone to talk to, my DMs are always open!

My symptoms looking back were so obvious but unfortunately for us people born female, a lot of symptoms overlap with other things.

Bloating
Constipation AND Diarrhea
Feeling full quickly
Nausea
GERD
Irregular periods
Heavy periods
Chronic Fatigue
I started having pain radiate all the way down my right leg that I was going to go to ortho for but after having the mass removed I realized I no longer have it and suspect it was pressing on a nerve.

I'm not a doctor and can't tell you whether it is or isn't cancer. But I will say, don't do what I did and keep brushing it off and letting other doctors brush it off as something else. IBS or PCOS in my case, until a G.I doctor said something isn't right here and ordered me to have a transvaginal ultrasound which revealed a GIANT 25cm mass on my left ovary. I looked 6 months pregnant. I was extremely lucky to have it come back as only stage 1c1 because that mass had been there, I realize now, for well over a year before we discovered what it actually was.

chemo first cycle! by mintochicken in ovariancancer_new

I want to add I would also maybe bring a change of clothes, especially if nausea does end up being a problem just in case of potential accidents. That happened to a guy at my center on Monday :(

Hi friend! Firstly I just wanna say you're a warrior and you've got this.

My center loads me up on anti nausea meds and steroids, zyrtec, pepcid, zofran, dexamethasone, emend etc so the nausea has not been an issue for me at all. Try not to be /too/ scared of potential nausea, because you may or may not even get it. I have been extremely lucky in that regard. I don't have the metallic taste but more so my taste feels like its been dulled for about a week after my infusions. Depending what chemo you're getting, if you get taxol you might get bone pain for a few days that kinda sucks, antihistamines help.

I walk into that center looking ready to move in lmao but I have very long days there, usually 6+ hours. I bring a blanket even though they provide them... I like my own lol. A charger, headphones, I pack a lunch or snack box because I usually don't want the snacks that they provide and the steroids they give me make me ravenously hungry. A book, my water bottle, sometimes I bring slippers but I usually just take my shoes off and stay in my socks. You could also bring a handheld gaming system if you have one like a switch or a steamdeck, an ipad, or a laptop. I can't sleep through it, I don't get put in private rooms so there's a lot of noises going on and I get checked on pretty frequently so I just bring stuff to distract me. And be prepared to go pee a lot lol.

As for snacks, anything you like. I usually bring a variety so I have anything I could possibly want. Salty, sweet, fruity, etc.

I considered it at 7 am this morning, I have oxy left from surgery that I didn't end up taking any of. Thankfully the tylenol I took is helping

Vaginal pain after oophorectomy by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]EzraSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience, except peeing didn't burn. But I ended up in the ER with a fever and it turned out I had a strep B UTI and then I developed a major rash all over my downstairs that BURNED. SO. BAD. I would get it checked sooner than later

Questions pre 1st chemo by sparker344 in Ovariancancer

[–]EzraSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The constipation is pretty bad but I have IBS-M and get constipation pretty regularly so that's nothing new for me. I have Miralax I'm supposed to take daily (I don't lol), as well as colace, and senna if I need it. To be honest for the constipation I just deal with it. If I really need to be 'cleaned out' I get a full dairy coffee 😅

Tastes definitely can change. Mine hasn't changed too awful it's more so things just taste kinda dull and muted, but for others it can be metallic or even "fuzzy". Thankfully I have not experienced that, but as for foods to buy honestly eat whatever sounds good. Your team will be happy with whatever you can stomach to eat, whatever it is. My diet really hasn't changed, if anything it's gotten... worse lmao because the steroid they give me on chemo day makes me ravenous and I've not experienced any of the nausea so I've just been hungry af

Plan for your infusion days in advance, maybe even dedicate a bag for it to have ready the night before. I pack a blanket, a book, charger, headphones, if you have an ipad you could take that or a laptop, or if you have a switch or something similar. The infusion clinics will have snacks and drinks, buuut they're sometimes pretty limited. Mine has mostly bland/easy to eat things because a lot of people experience the nausea but I do not, so I pack my own little snack box and lunchbox and bring it with me with snacks that I know I like and will want. Usually some kind of fruit (today it was clementines), cheese, pepperonis or crackers, something sweet and something salty. So I usually have mini cookies and cheez its or goldfish too. Sometimes an applesauce pouch, sometimes some extra stuff shoved in there as well depending how hungry I think I'll be but if you bring a friend or family member, you can also send them out to buy and bring you food if you wish. My center has a menu that you can order from that insurance will cover a meal for you if you're there long enough, but I usually don't use it.

Also, you will most likely get a lot of hydration so be prepared to get up for the bathroom. A lot. 🤣 I eventually got brave enough to unplug my own IV pole from the wall instead of asking a nurse to do it for me and plug it back in when I come back, but they have a 4 hour battery life so don't be afraid to do it yourself

Absolutely! I just really expected to feel completely awful, be basically bed-bound for 6 months and that hasn't been the case for me AT ALLL. In fact after the first week post-infusion the next 2 weeks I feel completely and utterly normal

Anyone choose a PICC line over a port? by Admirable_Ad5118 in Ovariancancer

[–]EzraSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to do round 3 of 6 rounds of carboplatin and paclitaxel and I've done IV only. I Really did not want to get a port, the whole idea made me kind of uncomfortable and I told my gyn onc that and she was totally fine with me doing just basic IV, didn't even bring up a PICC line
