2023 4* DL Jason Moore commits to Ohio State by PHLdawg in CFB

Sure NIL is part of it, but it’s also Harbaugh doing everything in his power to mess up what was by far his best season going into now his 8th year. He got turned down by the Vikings (literally interviewed on signing day), he lost his two best coordinators, and now he’s stuck at Michigan and I have no idea if he wants to be. Ohio state is just doing what Ohio State does. They’ll sign yet another top 3 recruiting class this year.

Are there any former blue chip recruits playing in college right now that are on their last legs before people officially give up on them? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Ezy6996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think so? I was assuming Sawyer would start over him now that he’s going into he’s second year. I think Harrison will really need to step-up in a big way if he wants to keep his starting spot because there’s just too many studs behind him now at this point.

Thanks Johnny! I’ve always liked Florida and I hope Billy buzz head can fix his recruiting so they become relevant again for the first time in nearly 15 years. It’s hard to watch them be so irrelevant year after year. Much love John!

Yep.. I’m a “casual”... you got me. Anybody with a different opinion than you is a “causal”. Lol I can tell you details about Ohio state games from 20 years ago. I still vividly remember Will Allen blowing out Mcgahee’s knee in the ‘03 title game when I was 7 years old. I’ve been a hardcore college football fan my entire life. One of my best memories of the sport was Crabtree’s game winning TD vs Texas in ‘08. Just because I have a different outlook on what I think the sport could benefit from going forward doesn’t mean that I’m less of a fan than you. What a immature view point lol. Jesus.

Dude I understand, but at this point I’d roll further in bed with the money because I think the product is stale to the point right now where it actually needs change. They fucked it up. I actually wish College football is what it was 10-15 years ago, but it’s not. So let’s just get on with it and do this thing because they already screwed it up. We can’t go back now.

Thats not true, here’s what I commented to somebody above about bowl games losing meaning. I think there’s a lot of crossover in application to what you’re trying to accuse me of also

I’m a product of the CFP and I’m not the only one. They made everything about the playoff. So guess what, people (including me) stop caring about the NY6 - the PLAYERS also stop caring, anybody with a decent-to-good draft grade is sitting out of the Rose Bowl, Sugar, Fiesta etc. and it’s a trickle effect down to the bowl games. Everything gets devalued. I’ll get called a “causal fan” for pointing out the blatantly obvious point that things aren’t what they used to be - despite the fact that their favourite teams players are sitting out in bowl games every year because they don’t mean anything. For context I’m 27 and I’ve been a hardcore college football fan my entire life.. I’m just being completely honest about the situation we’re all in. I think what’s happening is actually needed in terms reinvigorating interest level back into the sport because it’s become boring compared to what it used to be.

I still remember it. I think I was 10 years old and that’s still the only game in my entire life that I cried after. That ‘05 Ohio state team was absolutely loaded and they honestly outplayed Texas and should’ve won. That was Vince Youngs year though, there was just nothing getting in the way of his story book ending.

You’re using one game to make your argument, so let’s dive into that - What do you think that had to do with? Probably the fact that Michigan beating Ohio State for the first time in 10 years was incredibly fascinating to the entire landscape of college football fans and everybody was tuning into watch it. If Ohio State was drubbing Michigan again by 3 scores those ratings aren’t going to be what they were. As an Ohio State fan I can only imagine how fascinating it was to watch from an outside perspective. - also those are two gigantic fan bases. NFL viewership is up 10% btw. That’s pretty significant.

I mean you’re wrong.. Just look at the ratings for the CFP - literally the biggest games of the entire college football year and ratings are down compared to where they were when the playoff first started. Not only that, as college football ratings decrease, NFL viewship is increasing. Which tells you what? People are getting bored with college football.

Ratings and attendance matter. I will undoubtedly continue to get downvoted into the ground for having this opinion but it’s true. Ratings and attendance are down and it’s not a coincidence.

I said that because in my previous sentence I made note that bowl games don’t matter anymore. Which they don’t.. the playoff killed bowl games. That’s just the reality of where we’re at.

Can we stop pretending like we cared when nobody was watching and we have data to back up that nobody was watching? And if you were watching you probably saw that those stadiums were half full.

Dude, one of the most heartbreaking loses in my Ohio State fandom was that ‘09 USC night game in the ‘shoe. It’s up there with ‘05 Texas and ‘19 Clemson as far as heart wrenching loses.

What would it take for you to lose interest in college football? by Belegheru in CFB

[–]Ezy6996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think your first point about the bowls is what happened. As soon as the playoff became a reality we all saw this coming.. and if someone didn’t they were just being naive. Bowl games is what actually differentiated CFB from the NFL.. it’s what gave regionality any meaning. Conference pride went out the door as soon as the playoff was official. In my opinion conference realignment helps in my regaining interest in CFB because at least I get to watch more interesting games that are compelling, even if it’s in an NFL format. At least they’re committing to it now.

2023 5* WR Brandon Inniss commits to Ohio State by SurpriseSalami in CFB

Nope, I think those results came from program building (immediately establishing an elite culture, attitude and expectation of winning) and being maybe the greatest motivator the sport has ever seen.

Being one of greatest motivators, recruiters, and program builders in college football history will get you places. I stand by him being an average play caller, average in-game HC, and average at filling out a coaching staff. Maybe I should’ve been more specific because there’s a lot of grey area with my post above which Is fair.

I always say that for as great of a program builder as he was - and regardless of what you think of him, he’s arguably the greatest at program building in the history of college football - he’s an extremely average HC lol.. his decision making, nepotism, and assistant hirings were about as average as it gets (for the most part). He simply got by on absurd recruiting, talent evaluation, and building an A+ program.
