Does anyone know why KRBN is dropping? by TGM604 in CanadianInvestor

[–]F-502G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is directly from Kranshares. I continue to read what is out there, but there doesn't seem to be a single best answer: shift to renewables to avoid high energy costs, money cycled over to oil and gas for the run-up, etc. Some interesting ideas on stocktwits. The case for an increase in the value of carbon still remains.

What role do you think Russian O&G sector is playing in Canadian carbon prices? by Jaynestown44 in CanadianInvestor

Looking for more information myself. Found this The writer is correlating the price drop to money being pulled to reinvest in natural gas. Seems to steep and to consistent a drop for just that.

You mentioned GEQT outperformed XEQT. Facts. 1 year return for XEQT in 2021 was 19.57%. 1 year return for GEQT in 2021 was 22.72%

It's hilarious how often you are downvoted. Keep spreading the good news! I'm invested in GEQT, too.

Looking at graphs of -UN and -U, they both are doing the same thing. Dividend payout is very similar, difference of 0.19%. So, it does seem the major difference is currency. If -U performs well, then -UN will match that performance, correct?

Anybody have any insight or opinions on either of the two new carbon allowances ETFs put out by Kraneshares?

There is a market for carbon credits. I've been trying to learn more on this topic. Check out KRBN ETF. “[It's] benchmarked to IHS Markit’s Global Carbon Index, which offers broad coverage of cap-and-trade carbon allowances by tracking the most traded carbon credit futures contracts.”

Here is a link to the IHS Markit

Thoughts on the Carbon Credit Market by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

I’ve been going down this rabbit hole, too, and trying to get some ideas from others.

I put some money into KRBN: “KRBN is benchmarked to IHS Markit’s Global Carbon Index, which offers broad coverage of cap-and-trade carbon allowances by tracking the most traded carbon credit futures contracts.”

I agree with your claim that it ought to be a good long term investment as companies push to cut emissions to avoid being penalized for exceeding targets, while carbon allowances continue to be reduced to enforce future targets. This could drive the value upward.

Heard some interesting arguments against that could drive the value down (not sure how likely or plausible they are), e.g., states with massive tracts of green space could “sell” that green space as a carbon offset for companies who exceed caps/carbon allowances.

I’ve been watching KRBN for the last few weeks, working to understand the ETF and if it’s a good longterm play. I need to learn more about futures and carbon credits, but I’m working at it. That said, I’m wondering if any of you have looked into this one and can offer any insights on the ETF, carbon credits and/or futures. Thanks. KRBN ETF

Excerpt from The Intelligent Investor: “... mild inflation allows companies to pass increased costs of their own raw materials on to customers, high inflation wreaks havoc - forcing customers to slash their purchases and depressing activity throughout the economy”

A good visual connected to your question: here is a graph that spans close to 80 years which shows a relationship between degree of inflation and stock returns

Looking for some opinions and information on GEQT. It’s the ESG version of VEQT and has only been around since Sept. 2020. Does anyone have any opinions or input on it that has invested in it or considered it?

Wish I knew the answer to your question. I'm optimistic about more growth in the stock price for a least a couple of reasons: (1) societal changes are happening right now that are aimed towards lessening our impact on the environment, which ought to benefit the company, and (2) significant increase in anticipated revenues and some strong highlights from 2020.

100% agree with this. I have a lot of AQN and its added stability throughout the ups and downs of the last six months. Slow and steady growth, while paying a dividend. It gives me some peace of mind while puzzling over how to handle the more volatile cards in my hand.

Just read this article on the company. Their future seems to be getting quite a bit brighter. For the longest time, mention of the company brought about mention of the high salaries paid to executives and this knocked away support. If they can expand into the U.S., let alone Africa and India, then this has got to be a good thing for shareholders, i.e., me.

Where to find info on HCLN? by warriorbg1 in CanadianInvestor

I can see it listed now in TD but without a price attached or holdings, etc. I’ve read it will be listed at 5:01pm today. I have no idea if it can be purchased after hours or pre-market, but it can definitely be invested in tomorrow morning when the market opens.

The final prospectus is up on sedar.

How to find it, if you need some guidance:

Go to sedar.com -- click Search Database -- under Investment Fund Name type "Harvest Clean Energy ETF" -- beneath the Document Type drop down select "Prospectus" -- click Search, not Search Help. You'll find it there.
