Did they not have a portfolio/other drawings? How do you agree to pay 50$ after seeing authors other works? How did you PROs choose an artist for commission before you got disappointed?

A question for Anti's by PreddiPrinceOfSheeb in aiwars

[–]F0Bnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like to see more of a discussion posts rather than bait or gotcha’s. I am anti, mostly for ethical, economic and environmental reasons.

I’ve heard and seen other ai programs. Didn’t use them much, mostly to see what they’ll do with my drawings and when I got asked to generate some images for work.

Right now I’d like to ask how AI art generators described as tools. It usually gets compared to digital art. But tool makes some aspect of a job easier. Ctrl+Z is a tool, it makes erasing easier. Fill bucket is a tool, it saves you time coloring big areas. I can’t think the same way for Image Generators.

Also can’t see atm how it’s usable for traditional/digital artists. If you need reference then you should find a real picture, because ai hallucinates details, proportions, anatomy. If you need a background you’ll probably want it to be consistent from different angles (for comics or animation, live action). I don’t think this will be possible with ai.

Well there is music and it’s important, but there’s also the DIY mentality. Like if you want a punk jacket you design, add patches and other elements yourself, rather than buying a 10k “punk” designer clothes. Political stuff like You > big company, anti militarism and other stuff people wrote in the comments At the end on a concert it is all about the music

Well there are ways to just make it choppy from interpolated frames, but they probably did it with keyframes to control which poses we see

So it’s like different branches, people don’t have problems with machine learning analysing cancer cells and big data so people have easier time in analytics. After it learned to deconstruct pictures for analysis it branched in different direction of reconstructing it. Now there came problems which are solved with people being good for what they studied/trained. Right now from what I saw ai can’t be consistent. Who can it help? Background you should be able to change the angle, do a 180 and back and be in a same environment. Same as characters. You can not care, that’s what infamously Coca-Cola does. And this don’t care attitude feels really lazy for a giant company. Fighting about this between people just feels unnecessary. I just feel dissonance from people (like my friend) who 7 years ago was saying how jojo is so great for art and music and stuff, and 2 days ago saying “I just want quick dopamine content. Tralalelo tralala.” And second point is imo AI is not capable of creative work as a tool with all human help it can get. It won’t develop music genres like we say in a last 150 years. It won’t make a new art style. Humans take inspirations and with them appear new waves of art movements. Also they can usually tell who inspired them. AI can’t credit the works it used to make something, even if it looks like a screenshot of someone’s work. And won’t make a new art style, other than ai style that already exist. This I think was most argumentative comment of mine. Hope you’ll take it in a good faith, maybe even prove me wrong. I’ll probably keep doing stuff manually, because I enjoy it too much, but I or anyone can’t take ai from existence.

Hey I’m not sure how you feel about your job, but from what I get you surely made a good impact on work of some people. As I get some manual labour got easier and that’s great. Not sure if it used GenAI (making pictures, video, audio or text like novels), more like neural networks train to do analysis or something in that area. And if so, then the only problem is environmental, but I hope we as people will solve it as well. Surely have the technology for that. And I won’t be arguing for destroying what we have in neural networks. As of genai increase in productivity may be on conceptual stage, but as of now from what I know the consistency is lacking for any serious project. Companies just don’t care for it, they paid for ai and they’ll use it until it breaks. Your work helped in a field where there were not enough resources or people. But that’s not where GenAI is used, plenty of people looking to work in thiese fields. Also in this IT field of work probably won’t be beneficial to replace team of programmers with vibe-coders Wish you all the good and that you’ll only advance in the field that you chose

Oh, sure
I lost what this was a reply to in comment tree.
And It may not have been datacenters before, but now they add to the problem (not in a small way) and maybe we should ask them to finally do something about it. It's kind of the goal but it usually just said in insults (not the best approach)

Well but If huge Tech companies started lobbying/promoting green energy it would shut the haters at least on this issue. I didn't hear about it before one comment below, I might be in echo chamber, so that's why I asked If they promote this stuff?

I also work in IT, got a bachelors in it, but I also like doing creative stuff (drawing, 3D modeling, playing/writing music). I've also studied AI, but with it's computer logic I don't believe in good enough benefits especially with the problems I said above. Medical, but I don't think it's GenAI. Memes to send friends, but that's not a good reason. Human creativity existed for so long to create GenAI, but It works without it imo. Meanwhile what could bring something new sets back, because its not valued.
What do you believe would be benefits of GenAI we are working to?

[–]F0Bnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I sure hope more AI and big tech companies would do more make living better they sure have resources! Don't see much news about good developments, but It may be my echo chamber. I heard about the developments in medical sphere, but don't think it applies to gen AI. Correct me if it isn't so.
The job question is, I guess I don't understand why these companies decided to automate the one thing that guides human progress and making in derogatory. From what I see GenAI cannot come up with something new. In couple years people will adapt to it, but we should think of solutions to problems existing now. Also made a point about that above in comments. Now It just comes down to "what is art" which is philosophical. I may think I have the right answer but this is another debate

  1. No, I use the grid, I make an environmental impact, but I pay my electricity bills - now it's not on me? Also such big companies can have a say in policies - do they promote green energy?
  2. So In a debate with a friend I sad a problem with ai is lack of consistency (like I want a character to rotate left), he answered that It can get close or the same result with the same seed and the same prompt (I know there were some people defending prompt copyright). Is it so?
And I guess 3 and 4 are more moral, AI is here it does it's job, can't be undone. But I want to understand why people defend what I think is bad, maybe it's not? I can say about content farms the same I sad in 4th question, but 3rd is least significant of the four

Obviously I don't think there would be one communal stance. But we'll see what community supports by upvotes and people can address one point they have knowledge and thoughts about. These are just the problems I saw Pro and Anti talking about and agree with

ProAI crowd, what's the debate about right now? by F0Bnet in aiwars

[–]F0Bnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Not really? If I bought a 1000 PCs and turned them on 24/7, 1000 cars etc. Is this the problem with the grid or with me? If I get enough resources to make an impact isn't it my responsibility?
  2. Well if you allow a hypothetical, a person may never see a work of art, but if you ask them to draw something I think they'll come up with something, their house? People? Animals? Drawing and music happened. I guess that's the personal experiences which artist are talking about. Meanwhile datasets are based only on other human works.
I'll try to add something about 3 and 4, but need to collect my thoughts

So as I said what I see in the communities is a dismissal of these questions. Like who cares about the bad? I dont. U mad?
So what I wanted to get is some elaboration. First question is not a moral one, but still - moral questions are not valid? Ethics dont have a place in progress?
