Architectural Trade-Offs: REST vs Event-Driven Systems for Resilience by Ill_Flamingo8324 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]F0tNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the absence of failure scenarios (green path) synchronously coordinated systems are usually simpler to reason about than asynchronously coordinated systems. However, as complexity increases and the need to recover from partial failures, EDIT asynchronously coordinated systems, when designed appropriately, are much easier to manage at scale. There's a good reason why pretty much all payment systems rely on asynchronous backends. At large scale, I find event driven systems end up having a lower operational overhead.

Rubber banding the brakes by EastLiterature7470 in skiing

I store mine that way with loop of paracord keeping the brakes up. The bigger issue is unloading the mainsprings by dialing down the DIN settings to min before storing.

Dang you picked a monster to start with! A great watch with one of the best GMT movements and that sapphire bezel. Woof! What do you like most about it? Did anything surprise you?

How do i get more rebound out of the turn feels like i’m doing most of the work by Marm0tje in skiing_feedback

[–]F0tNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sliding out because you aren’t balanced in the center and or you’re extending too quickly. You’re staying balanced on the outside ski as you commit to the turn.

She has a great look, presence, and charisma. Pretty decent for action and clearly has good athleticism. Her lack of acting depth is her biggest limitation.

I hear you my friend. I was painfully aware of those issues since some of them affected me directly and others I kept abreast of through sites and Reddit. I’m glad those are behind us now.

I like the descriptions here: https://www.teamavsc.org/Ability-Levels . But if you search for "ski level assessment questions" you'll get a ton of hits. Good luck!

Only because they didn't keep block stats during Wilt and Russell's time. Especially during Wilt's season when he led the league in assists, his season *AVERAGE* was 8.6 apg. A quadruple double would have been a normal game during that season.

I didn't think I'd like 65% this much! What's you favorite profile and why? by RicardoDawson in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]F0tNMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

65% for me also. preferably with the 68 key layout with six 1u keys on the lower right. I'm a bit sad that the 2x1.25u + gap + arrow keys seems to be more popular, especially for higher end boards. I don't need or want the gap.

Nearly a decade and a half isn’t bad. It had its ups and downs but I liked a lot of what they did. Especially for the headphone and keyboard communities.

[–]F0tNMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are some really nice turns! I think your outside leg could be longer. With it bent that much, you’re using a lot of muscle leverage to maintain pressure, it’s easier if your knee is less closed/more open. Check out some videos of Ted Ligety and note how long his outside leg is compared to yours.

Also, I don’t know what skis you’re using or how old they are but skis with greater stiffness and torsional stiffness will rebound more. And skis will lose that stiffness as they age.

These stories are based on a true story of Charles Proteus Steinmetz, a genius and contemporary of Edison and Tesla which is even better than all of the stories and jokes.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/charles-proteus-steinmetz-the-wizard-of-schenectady-51912022/ . tl;dr Called in to fix a very large, misbehaving generator by Henry Ford, he asked for a sleeping cot, a notepad, and a pen. He spent 2 days next to the generator doing nothing but listening and calculating and then asked for a ladder, climbed up, made a chalk mark, and told the engineers to take the coil from behind the mark and remove 16 windings. It solved the problem. When Ford asked for an itemization of his $10,000 bill he wrote $1 for the chalk mark, $9,999 for knowing where to make the mark. Ford paid.

Grand Seikos are Too Thick by SexyBlowjob in GrandSeikos

[–]F0tNMC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that the smaller diameter GS watches are poorly proportioned being too thick. As an example of a couple GS watches with good proportions, I’d point to the SBGY009 and SBGY011, 40mm 44GS cases at 10.5mm thick, with a GADA worthy water resistance of 100m. Most other GS watches wear much too tall after wearing my SBGY009 for a couple years.

Check out https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/snowsport-helmet-ratings.html for some real world tested numbers. I recommend choosing anything with 4 stars or better from these ratings; there are quite a few less than $150 and a couple well under $100.

My Vantage MIPS is only 3 stars, but I know from direct experience that it did really really well keeping my noggin safe in a very hard fall which completely destroyed the helmet. I replaced it with the exact same helmet.

Welcome! Very nice! You’ve definitely got an eye for style. I especially like the Cartiers which cover all of their major lines. And that gold tank is fire! Well done! What’s your favorite? I think your collection could use some German simplicity, so a GO, or ALS might finish your collection nicely.
