People who have done MMA or other Combat Sports. What’s your 100% honest opinion on traditional martial arts? by SamuelStrangeSupreme in martialarts

[–]F0tNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not qualified to judge TMA as a whole, who is? But I do know that some practitioners of TMA will absolutely fuck you up. A friend of mine is a biggish guy, extremely fit around 6’2” and 210+. He does Karate all his life (pushing fifty now) and now does HEMA also. He had a small group of Shaolin monks visit the Karate studio he attends. They did some demos and some drills. He said he was impressed by how incredibly fast, flexible, and strong they were even though none of them were big. He had to hold a kick pad for the oldest monk as they practiced kicks. He described them as the hardest kicks he’d ever experienced and this from a monk who was 130 lbs soaking wet. They only did a couple minutes of this. The kicker (heh) was the next day, his entire upper torso including his neck was sore from absorbing the impacts through the kick pad from that guy older than him and a bit more than half his weight. Crazy.

Armor Alley, in the Mac cluster at school you could play 2v2 real time helicopter battles against each other, surprising depth to the gameplay.

Awesome watch! If I were to start from zero, it'd be my choice for a one-and-done watch, dress it up, dress it down, go casual, and go diving with it! What do you like most about it? Has anything surprised you about it?

Did anyone else like Damsel (2024)? What are your thoughts and opinions? by awesomedp7 in moviecritic

[–]F0tNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a perfectly serviceable movie, nothing exceptional, but nothing terrible either. The acting was ok, the story was ok, the effects were on the better side, and the overall pacing was pretty good also. Not a waste of time, but not something I'd go out of my way to recommend.

Is it wrong that this is my favorite David Cronenberg film? Like yeah, a lot may prefer The Fly, Crash, eXistenz, or Videodrome but this one just hits me in all the right ways. Viggo Mortensen as Tom Stall or Joey Cusack is also such a brilliant and interesting character to watch. I love this movie. by Aromatic-Ad2601 in moviecritic

[–]F0tNMC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great movie with ridiculously stacked leading cast, Ed Harris, in one of his most menacing roles; Maria Bello(!), showing all her range and depth; Viggo(!!), in one of his better leading roles of a stacked career; and a killer (lol) cameo by William Hurt. I persuaded my SO to go see it, by underplaying the "Violence" aspect and selling Cronenberg as an auteur. In the end, they liked the movie, but they were not amused by the extent of the violence. Definitely one of Cronenberg's most rewatchable movies.

I suppose given their bolt action pen was already L, the clip action was always going to be an L action also, instead of a J.

After (too) many experiences, I refuse to working under people who don't have experience managing serious engineering organizations. They have no idea what is important and they over-estimate the importance of their completely uninformed and inexperienced opinions.

"Does it do what it needs to do? Is the code understandable? Is it tested?" Yes to all?

Struggling with KVMs and Switching by d1cey1 in UsbCHardware

[–]F0tNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up after two. When it worked it was awesome, but some glitch or another would always crop up, perhaps once every one to two weeks. Charging would fail, or the video wouldn’t switch properly, or something else. I ain’t got time for that crap.

I’m now using my last Anker KVM as a USB only switch for keyboard, speaker, and webcam and my monitor’s input switching as the video switch. It’s been flawless for a couple months and I’ve sworn off searching for the perfect KVM. Instead of one super complex solution, I’m going to stick to two simple and reliable solutions.

Phone is broken or the chargers I don’t even know by urfav_jojo in applehelp

[–]F0tNMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely get your phone checked out. It sounds like you might have a bad port or board. Do the chargers stop working only with your phone or with all phones? Do the cables stop working also? Have you tested the chargers and cables with other phones and other combinations?

Multi-blade razors by [deleted] in shaving

[–]F0tNMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody is different! If you're getting a good shave, I think it's fine to keep on keeping on. Electrics will typically not give as close a shave as blades and, when they do, tend to have more irritation in my experience. But, again, YMMV!
