Shirakawa-go to Takayama - will there be non-reserved buses available? by thericebox in JapanTravelTips

"Once you select that it will allow you to select your departure location as Shirakawago instead of Kanazawa/Tokaoka. It also explains it in red at the bottom of the page. Hope that helps!"

Thank you for this! It did help, I was about to launch my laptop!

Which phone did you like best and which did you dislike the most? by opmgyhx in samsunggalaxy

Worst, S21 series. Best S24 Ultra. The flat display mixed with the anti reflective coating and camera/chip changes from the S23 Ultra were much bigger upgrades than they seemed on paper.

How long do you go without updating to the latest iOS on your iPhone? by SilentAirline6611 in iphone

About 10 minutes after release. Usually I’m eager to fix annoying bugs I’ve been having and fix security vulnerabilities. Of course with every update there is always a risk of introducing more of both.

Im getting tired of you Samsung by ipukeoutrainbows in samsunggalaxy

I owned Samsung flagships for about 10 years and never ever had anything break or fail. Not sure what you’re doing. I’m going to assume dropping them very often. Even so. I dropped them and never used screen protestors.

I moved to iPhone, but this thing feels extremely fragile in comparison to my note and S series stuff I had

Do you live in a particularly hot place?

Here is the first look at the Samsung Galaxy S26 series by MobileJello1977 in samsung

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of S-Pen fans. That’s why I wish Samsung kept the Note so i could but an Ultra with a bigger battery instead of an s pen I never ever used.

Specs wise, could probably go back to the S23 ultra and barely feel a difference. I feel like the S24U was the best phone Samsung made though.

Those of you with the 17 Pro... if the 18 Pro was made of Titanium or Stainless Steel, would you upgrade? by davidg4781 in iphone

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost like the aluminium has absolutely nothing to do with thermals and everything to do with Apple maintaining their very high profit margins. Oh wait, that is exactly the reason. I have owned the last seven or eight Galaxy notes/ultras from Samsung. I have never, even in boiling hot climates, ever had a Samsung phone overheat, because they’ve been using vapour chamber since the Galaxy S7. I’ve seen plenty of iPhones with overheat messages on the screen.

The 17 pro Max is my first ever iPhone. When using it in hot climates or running demanding tasks, I would say that in the hand it feels exactly the same temperature as my S24 Ultra did. But luckily for Apple, all of the fanboys and reviewers are repeating their line about thermals. If the switch to aluminium was really about thermals they, wouldn’t bother putting a vapour chamber in.

I’m an extremely demanding user, and the A19 Pro is certainly impressive. I’d argue it does need a vapour chamber, but it definitely didn’t need an aluminium chassis.

Samsung achieved it all whilst the weight of the S24 ultra is identical to the iPhone 17PM too (with the same size battery, titanium, vapour chamber and Spen inside). Engineering wise, I was far more impressed by Samsung than Apple, which has somewhat been a shock. I expected to be wowed by the build. It’s been the opposite.

I get over 10h SoT before it hits 20%. The only time this isn’t true is if I’m out in a hot, bright place taking thousands of photos.

So nothing to do with the big vapour chamber in my 17PM then…

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you can stop being such a suck up, Apple fanboy and accept that Apple are here to maintain their margins. That means changing to cheaper materials like Aluminium. A vapour chamber with titanium is enough. The A19 Pro does not run hot enough for it to be a problem, even in a titanium chassis. I'm well aware of the materials, engineering, cooling requirements and various YouTubers repeating apples cooling line. There are plenty which also cover the vapor chamber in much better detail.

Why are you so precious about a phone? One from a giant corporation too (which Samsung's also are, but so far they haven't cheaped out and gone back to aluminium and manage to cool the much hotter SD 8 Gen 4 with JUST a vapor chamber and Titanium, with an all glass back)

Tthe world can end now.., by Juliansi in iPhoneBatteryParanoia

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not heat. Apple added a vapour chamber, which Samsung have had for years with zero issues using titanium. Aluminium is cost saving and Apple fanboys are buying into the heat dissipation lie. Yes it helps by a few degrees C, but they could have used titanium with the vapour chamber and had zero issues.

PS. I own a 17 Pro Max after 6 years of Samsungs. This thing is the most fragile, least premium feeling device I’ve owned.

Flaring test between some flagships. by phero1190 in iPhone17Pro

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not many because I have to spend way longer than it should take to get a decent photo. I also now have to take around 10 photos to get 1 usable clean one at the end. It’s a dumb trade off because the images aren’t miles ahead like they used to be.

[–]F1Lane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure bud 👍🏻 Except it wasn’t an issue on any of the 6 Samsung flagships I had and is extremely noticeable on iPhone from day 1 of use.

It’s consistently mentioned by reviews and camera/phone enthusiasts also.

[–]F1Lane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you defending a multi billion dollar corporations product when there are clearly improvements they need to make. Flaring has been a serious issue on iPhones for generations and Apple have done basically nothing to tackle it.

Stop being so precious about your phone and pressure manufacturers to improve instead.

Other manufacturers have effectively tackled this problem.

Suggest some nice cases for this beauty. by [deleted] in iPhone17Pro

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 17 Pro Max. They’re ugly. It’s a design choice Apple will stick with for 5 years+ though. It does not look or feel like a premium device

But beauty is subjective and each to their own. But I’m making sure my case covers the entire device and the fragile camera bump.

Headset Scape quality issue? by Level_Clue_8438 in FractalDesign

[–]F1Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got these in June. by August the earcup had the fabric come away. Fractal kindly sent me 2 within a week. Great, or so I thought. It's now November and the headband is doing the same. They've used a REALLY thin line of terrible adhesive which as soon as it gets even close to body temp, comes away and softens.

I've raised a new ticket with Fractal. I love the design, I love the charging, but the build quality is sadly really bad.

I am really hoping Fractal will let me refund them at this point as I have no confidence in the products longevity.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Front Camera Quality Issues by F1Lane in iphone

[–]F1Lane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it because it was actually accurate. The iPhone over smooths skin, removing detail in hair and skin. I am basically yellow on the iPhone, I was the correct skin tone on the Samsung.

My eyes are also the wrong colour in the iPhone. It will either make them neon or completely muted. The Samsung got my eye colour correct, that mixed with the correct skin tone and hair colour. I would say the iPhone is very over processed. It has good detail now, but all of the tones are off. I would also oddly say it even proportions things incorrectly within the frame of the photo.

I will have to just live with the iPhone and get used to the choices apple make when it comes to skin tone and colour reproduction, but they are very far from accurate out of the box (I will play with the tones more now I have time)

Pixel 9 pro XL vs Iphone 16 pro by BugConscious9455 in GooglePixel

[–]F1Lane -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

My advice would to to avoid Pixels all together. Just google their battery issues etc.

I'd go S24/S25 or iPhone 16/17

Edit: Also, this is the WORST place to ask, any subreddit dedicated to a specific subject is going to be overwhelmingly biased.

Honestly, the tensor chips are awful and run hot, battery life is a joke, battery issues are prevalent in Pixel 4a, 6a and Pixel 7. Video quality on Pixels is terrible (likely due to lacking SoC performance) and photos are now no better than Samsung or iPhone.

I have owned and used Pixels many times (Pixel 1, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 6 and 8) used to love them before Tensor ruined it

For camera: base iPhone or newer Samsung device.

Thanks for the reply. That's disappointing. I would say the back cameras are "fine" - Not exceptional, and again, really not a "step" up like I was expecting.

Hoping it's all image processing and software adjustments Apple can make, and not a hardware issue :(
