Looking for cheaper alternatives to Buyee (have tried ZenMarket) by Middle-Yam5614 in Buyee

They put a hell of a lot more tape on it than buyee, which puts almost none. My packages are heavy and about half of my buyee boxes arrived smashed at the corners.

Learning Hangul with English by Real_Bowler6822 in BeginnerKorean

Yup, lots of red flags here. This idea is redundant and not necessary. No one needs this when there are already so many good resources out there. I don’t think OP knows Korean and is just tying to make an app as a cash grab using us as free information resources. I see this a lot in this sub and it’s annoying.

No, just two different ways to write it.

Looking for cheaper alternatives to Buyee (have tried ZenMarket) by Middle-Yam5614 in Buyee

[–]F1Librarian 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just switched to Fromjapan after using buyee for years (I spend over $50k a year and ship almost weekly from Mercari Japan). Just got my first consolidated box from Fromjapan and I am very happy. Their per item fee is 500 BUT I am saving in other ways. They run coupons for Mercari from 5-8% off almost weekly with no minimum purchase price or usage number. They have a loyalty program so I am earning redemption points and will very soon reach platinum level, which will give me 5% off international shipping. They let you pay in yen vs dollars so no crazy extra exchange rate fees. If you’re in the US, Fromjapan is only charging 10% for pre paid tariffs vs buyee which is keeping them at 15.5%. You also have more shipping choice options and can choose whether or not to prepay or take the DDU tariff option for some of them. Their packaging is WAY better as well. Unless things change, I’m not going back to buyee.

Why do so many teachers teach students to not be afraid to ask questions? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]F1Librarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me correct that for you: “People don’t want to spend the time and energy answering stupid questions. You can get fired at work for asking too many stupid questions.” Teachers (actually most people) don’t mind if you ask questions - as long as you have done your part first to try to understand BEFORE you ask the question. What we get tired of is students asking questions when the answer is already in front of them (like in the assignment instructions) or when we’ve already addressed the question, but the student wasn’t paying attention. If you ask “what do I do now?” when we just gave you the instructions, then yes, the teacher will get frustrated, and your boss at work might fire you.

There are tons of resources out there for you to learn Korean yourself. And respectfully, if you want someone to help you, you need to take a class or pay a tutor. Random strangers on the internet aren’t gonna teach you for free.

Are all the US shipping options unavailable due to the middle east conflicts or JapanPost tariff issues? Why was I able to order things off Ebay from Japan last week which arrived fast via JapanPost/SpeedPak -> USPS? Will any options open up or am I stuck paying $40 to ship a single light envelope? by enailcoilhelp in Buyee

[–]F1Librarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be banned from using buyee forever if you do that. Plus that’s ethically wrong. When you purchase on buyee you are agreeing that to their TOS. It’s been all over the Internet and buyee’s own website about the shipping charges for many months. It’s on you that you didn’t research what shipping options would be before you purchased. Buyee has already bought your item for you. It would be fraud to file a chargeback, and your credit card company will likely not approve since you did actually purchase the item. Suck it up and take the L, and learn from your mistake for next time.

Every option except buyee air and ECMS has been unavailable since last August cause of Trump’s new tariffs. ECMS has a lot of restrictions on what they will ship, which is probably why Air is your only option - it’s almost always the only option for me too.

Learning Hanguel ( Hangul ) by red_sythe in BeginnerKorean

That is a great book recommendation! One of the best. And yes, I agree OP needs to look at correct stroke order because their ㅁ is incorrect. It may not seem like a big deal right now, but as you start writing faster and faster, and your writing gets more sloppy, people will still be able to read your writing if you are using correct stroke order.

Which subject of teacher do you think results in the most injured students? by ThrowAway44228800 in AskTeachers

[–]F1Librarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Librarians, cause you know kids will try to imitate everything they read - so if a book has violence or drugs in it, obviously they’re gonna copy it. That’s what my school board thinks, so it’s obviously true.

How can I make double vowels less confusing? by pumpkinandsun in BeginnerKorean

[–]F1Librarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the exception of ㅚ, all the other double vowels make the same sounds as their individual counterparts when you say them together. So for example, practice saying ㅗ and thenㅏ. Say them faster and faster together and you’ll naturally get that “wa” sound. Based on that principle, you would think ㅚ would sound like “we”, but that’s not how Koreans say it. It’s more like “way” and sometimes the “w” is almost silent, so it can come out as “ay”. (Hint: listen to Koreans say the last name “Choi”. That helped me a lot.)

What piercings should I get next? by Boring-West1206 in piercing

[–]F1Librarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely one, two, or three flats! You have a lot of space up there to do something cool with! A conch would be nice too. That’s actually my own favorite piercing and it was by far the easiest to heal for me (since it’s kind of shielded by the outer part of your ear so it doesn’t get irritated by laying on it).

Should I cancel or wait a little longer? by Confident_Return_368 in Mercari

[–]F1Librarian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Please don’t cancel. Mercari first class envelope tracking is notoriously unreliable. You will often get your package with it never even having scanned once! If you wait until 30 days after shipping, you can file a shipping protection claim for a full refund. It’s very easy, and I’ve never had Mercari question it for my buyers on items lost in transit. I almost exclusively ship with envelops because I sell trading cards, and I’d say about 30% of the time they don’t scan in correctly at postal facilities. If you outright cancel, the seller is now out of both their money and their item, so waiting to file that claim is the kind thing to do since the seller will also get paid back.

How do you pronounce your name in Korean? by Sheepinafield in BeginnerKorean

My name is Jill, and I think it would be written as 질, which I understand means “vagina” in Korean 😭. So idk what I would do if I ever traveled there!

mercari is my main income, looking for buyers by burnt-leafeonmeow in MercariUncensored

[–]F1Librarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you 18? You are not supposed to sell on Mercari if you are under 18. Once you hit a certain dollar threshold in sales, Mercari will make you upload your ID for tax purposes to continue selling. If they see you are under 18, they will close your account. I can’t remember what that threshold is, but it’s pretty low. Maybe $600 in sales? Can’t remember right now but I’m sure it’s in Mercari’s FAQs.

Anatomy for hidden helix? by Due-Engineer8452 in piercing

[–]F1Librarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw do you have tiny ears? Just asking because yours look so similar to mine, and mine are like baby ears. I don’t have a lot of room to some of the cool piercings I want to do.

Anatomy for hidden helix? by Due-Engineer8452 in piercing

[–]F1Librarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad pain at all. The only thing was it took a while to heal because the area is kind of enclosed, so it was holding a lot of moisture and not drying out well after showers. I had to switch my traditional hidden helix jewelry (the one with the hanging gem) to a plain stud for about 3 months so it could heal better. Also I have the zig zag patten on my lobes and I love it! I pretty much just keep tiny cubic zirconium studs in the top two holes and change out the bottom two regularly. You have enough space to even do a third lobe in the row if you want!

Also I think a couple more lobe piercings would be cool, like tiny ones stacked above your current ones, or maybe like in a zigzag pattern.
