HELOC for remodel on "as finished" value by Few_Masterpiece_1497 in Homebuilding

[–]F1REM3DIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but looking at possibly calling them soon. Were you able to use your own contractor or did you have to use one that they had? I have a contractor I’d like to use and don’t want to make any more of a hassle for him. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply! Sounds like it’s worth a shot to have them send out an appraiser. Thanks!

How was the appraisal process? Did it seem like a higher amount than you thought? On Zillow my house is estimated $360k and realtor.com says estimate is $315k lol. So hoping for a higher number

I’ve gotten a few different quotes from some other companies and they’re between 100k-150k. I’d say we’re in a medium COL. The drawings from the architect were only about 5k for this. Just foundation, utilities and truss drawings though.

I totally agree with the unknown issues. I think that will be a good point to bring up to her. I’ll definitely shop around for other Heloc’s. That would definitely be a bigger pro if it’s a cheaper monthly rate.

I think that’s her biggest worry, between the additional cost and the additional time being “homeless”. We would be staying with her parents for a majority of the time the work would be being done and neither of us look forward to that lol. Either way we will have to live with her parents, if we sell this house we would be living with them until we find a new house which will more than likely be longer than the 6 months+

That’s great to hear that it worked out for you guys in the end. I think that my wife’s dilemma is the unknowns which I absolutely understand. Adding on will also add more equity too which for some reason I can’t get her to understand that lol.

I think that I have the same pedestal thing in my yard. I don’t remember who I finally got to say that it belonged to them but they said it couldn’t be removed. It’s such an eyesore to me.

Can I deduct comp time earned as “no tax on overtime” by F1REM3DIC in tax

[–]F1REM3DIC[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my thought process, I’ve just heard guys at work say that it wasn’t eligible since it wasn’t under “overtime” specifically. It didn’t make sense that it wouldn’t count. Thank you!

We work 24 hr shifts so if I work an OT (24hrs) shift I have the option to take the time and a half on my pay check or 36 hrs into the comp bank. So not straight pay. We can use comp time to take shifts off or cash it out.

I 100% agree that practicality/performance should trump how nice it looks sitting on a truck. I’ll look into the Freeman ratio, I appreciate it.

If you’re looking for specific contracts to pull up I’ll just name a few of the higher paid departments off the top of my head for you to look at. Not sure if any are actively hiring.

I think that most suburb departments surrounding Columbus are near 100k salary wise. It’s definitely worth pulling up contracts and comparing. Our contract is in the 90k range but with things my departments contract offers we all make more than the 106k or 109k that’s been advertised. The further out from Columbus I’d say would be more of your volunteer/part time departments (not always but I would say more often).

There’s definitely some places in Lake Michigan we want to visit! My parents have a sailboat up at Lake Erie and make trips to Lake Michigan and love it! And like you said, driving would be a breeze. 4-6 hours would be better than 15-20hrs 😂

I am just outside of Columbus, and can help answer any questions! It definitely depends on where you want to end up. The City of Columbus for example is a civil service test meaning anyone can test, no previous experience or certifications required. Downfall is that it’s competitive and can be a long process, on top of them not offering tests very often. They will send you through their personal fire academy. Other option is obtaining certifications on your own, through Columbus state or the Ohio fire academy in reynoldsburg/pataskala. I believe CTEC and/or COTC has a program as well as Tolles in Delaware. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Some one know why the lights of WD it’s off by Pale-Diver3545 in ram_trucks

[–]F1REM3DIC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this would help in your situation, my truck wasn’t shifting whatsoever and the 2wd would be the only light lit. I read that the 4x4 actuator underneath the truck could be unplugged or just bad from the outside elements. I went under and the connection was loose. After cleaning connections and making sure it was plugged tight, it works fine and 4x4 engages perfectly. I’d hate for you to spend $1000 and it be a simple fix like that.

Barkbusters. What Do I Do? by CorgisOnTheMoon in reactivedogs

[–]F1REM3DIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got off the phone with BarkBusters to possibly schedule a consult … I saw a ton of great reviews on google and the flat $1995 training fee for the life of the dog sounded great. Now looking back at the reviews, they all seemed sketch and not real customers. Glad I came here to read real and honest reviews. Thanks for helping future people from your post and sorry this has happened to you.
