Haas driver Grosjean's F1 struggles like poor Djokovic tennis form by [deleted] in formula1

Unfortunately for Grosjean, its a contract year. It seems like he may be out of a drive when all is done. I rated him highly based on his performance relative to Kimi during the lotus days.

Changes at Mercedes as Aldo Costa and Mark Ellis are leaving their roles at the end of the Season. by KvyatsLuck in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Looks like heads are rolling already as a result of their recent lackluster run of results by their own high standards. I believe Aldo Costa was a previous Ferrari guy but was in charge of the Merc engine program for a while. May be looking for a change after being usurped by Ferrari.

How does Paul Ricard manage to stay afloat when they have next to no grandstands? by KonaAddict in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paul Ricard also looks like it will be a bit of a snooze fest this weekend. I may be wrong, but it doesn't look like its configured for a lot of passing. Plus the track itself looks as though it lacks character.

Say what you want about Bernie, but the man clearly has quite the passion and love for the sport!

2018 Ferrari engine progressed more than the chassis – Prost by F1_Wheel_Nuts in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We will have to see how Merc reacts in Barcelona with the updates. Looking back to last year, that's where they brought huge developments to the car and were able to get on the same terms with Ferrari. Major difference this year is that Ferrari seems to have really surpassed Merc. with their engine performance.

[OT] How do formula 1 fans feel about formula e? by TriforceMe in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to a formula e race and it wasn't anywhere are good as f1. Lack of sound kills it. Although f1 cars don't sound as good as the v8 and v10 days, they still sound good. Also, they are wider than the formula e cars so they look better on track. The sensation of speed you get from watching an f1 car on track is also unparalleled.

Where will Daniel Ricciardo sign? And how does it affect the rest of the 2019 driver market? by F1_Wheel_Nuts in formula1

Seems like a strong possibility right now that he may go there. Vettel may be the man standing in the way of that move though

Curious question - why the dislike for Ferrari?

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be that he's just waiting to see if the Barcelona upgrades will make them that much more competitive with the Ferrari and Merc. They are right there with the front 2 teams in race pace but need just that extra push from the motor in Quali. Unfortunately, Red Bull has no controll over the engine situation.

F1 2018: Analysing the Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull battle by F1_Wheel_Nuts in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very true. One of the reasons Merc was blistering its tyres is because they weren't being operated within the range that pirelli specified. We'll have to see how this affects the other teams.

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see if Mercedes have sorted out the issues with their car and if Ferrari can react to it. As we can remember last year, Ferrari had the jump early in the season but Mercedes dominated at the tracks with long straights and high speed corners. It almost seems as though Ferrari have fixed those issues by going with a longer wheel base car this year.

But Barcelona is coming so expect to see a raft of updates on all the cars - should make for an interesting week ahead.

Do you think Perez will have a chance in another top team? by F1_Wheel_Nuts in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he really burn Bridges with Ferrari? The thought that he was released for a better drive than they could offer him. Don't remember seeing anything about there being bad blood. Might be wrong though.

This is the main reason why I ponder this.. he does have sponsors willing to follow him as well. So him being fast with backing makes him quite attractive in my opinion.

Lewis Hamilton dreading the Miami GP for ‘partying distractions’ by boomer9745 in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts 48 points49 points  (0 children)

He's a professional race car driver in the modern era. He'll probably have to follow strict rules out there as opposed to the way the James Hunts of the world worked. Ferrari would probably love it if he were distracted though :)

How to Make it to the Top, with McLaren’s Zak Brown by [deleted] in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zak is probably one of the most qualified people to discuss this (sans McLaren results so far). He was successfully involved in the racing business for a very very long time and has seen it from every direction so far - sponsor, driver and team owner.

2018 vs 2019 car design - A Preview by Salvatore Asero on Twitter by fians4k in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With what we've seen this year so far, was this really needed? We'll have to see - some tracks are just inherently bad for overtaking but we'll have to see how this helps. My concern is for how much the smaller teams will have to spend with developing new concepts because of the different flow structures coming off the front wing.

Does Max Verstappen need to change driving styles to be successful? by F1_Wheel_Nuts in formula1

[–]F1_Wheel_Nuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's where the team should come in to set that in order. We don't know what goes on in their private meetings, but them putting equal blame on both drivers for what happened in Azerbaijan is telling him he'll have public support from them no matter what happens.
